Bahia Legislative Assembly 2025 shows increased activity and outputs
According to the balance sheet presented by the president, the Assembly received a total of 2,071 propositions during 2025 and registered 1,717 proposals considered in plenary. The Chamber recorded 110 ordinary sessions, eight extraordinary sessions, 70 special sessions, two ceremonial sittings and two preparatory sessions, signifying an intensive parliamentary calendar.
Bastos emphasised that the year began with a clear aim to boost committee work and increase the number of bills taken to plenary. “It was a year of much movement. We started with the purpose of having more activity in committees and more bills from deputies presented in the plenary,” she said. “We had 1,717 projects presented in plenary. We held the Board meetings every month and the leaders’ collegiate convened monthly as well. It was a year of much work and we conclude with the duty fulfilled.”
The composition of the 1,717 proposals reflects a mixture of government and judicial inputs alongside initiatives from deputies. From external proposers, the Assembly considered 59 government bills, one complementary government bill, one constitutional amendment proposal from the state executive, three messages from Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, 12 proposals from the Court of Justice, two from the State Audit Court, one from the Municipal Audit Court, and single proposals each from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office.
Legislators themselves put forward a broad set of initiatives: 66 bills, 167 public utility proposals, two constitutional amendment projects, 83 resolutions, 722 indications, 818 motions and 177 requests. The diversity and volume of items under consideration illustrate the Assembly’s active role in responding to both executive proposals and deputies’ priorities.
Bastos used the closing session to thank colleagues and staff for their contribution to the effective functioning of the Assembly. She specifically acknowledged the work of the Attorney General’s Office, the coordination teams and all employees who keep the institution operational. “I want to thank all the deputies, the whole Assembly, the Attorney’s Office, the Coordination Office and everyone who makes this House move and work and respond to the expectations of the population,” she said.
Looking ahead, the president expressed hope for a peaceful and productive 2026 and extended seasonal greetings to the public. She asked that families come together for the New Year and closed by offering her appreciation and best wishes for the months ahead.
The report positions the Bahia Legislative Assembly as an active state legislature that prioritised procedural regularity and a high throughput of proposals throughout 2025. Observers will watch how the patterns of committee work and monthly leadership coordination evolve in the coming year.
