Key Takeaways:

  • Planned Mangaluru power outage scheduled on 31 December affecting multiple feeder lines between 10:00 and 17:00.
  • Adyar and Katipalla feeders have shorter outage windows; other feeders face longer interruptions as per MESCOM.
  • Residents and businesses are advised to make contingency arrangements and contact MESCOM for assistance.

Mangaluru Faces Planned Power Outage on 31 December

The electricity distributor MESCOM has announced a planned interruption to supply across several parts of Mangaluru on Wednesday, 31 December. The scheduled outage will affect multiple feeder lines and is intended to allow the utility to carry out essential works and maintenance.

Mangaluru power outage: areas and timings

MESCOM said that residents under the Adyar feeder will experience a supply cut between 10:00 and 14:00. A wider group of feeders will be affected for a longer period, with the Konaje, Manjanady, Kinya, Mudipu, Thokkottu, Kotekar, Kuloor, Derebail, Mullakaadu, Malemar, Chilimbi and Kottara lines scheduled for interruption between 10:00 and 17:00. The Katipalla feeder will be off from 10:00 until 16:00.

The utility issued the advisory in a press release and urged customers to take necessary precautions before the outage begins.

What residents and businesses should do

Households and commercial establishments in the affected areas should plan for the interruption. Simple measures can reduce inconvenience: charge essential devices in advance, keep flashlights and batteries to hand, and pause or reschedule any critical electrical work or machinery that cannot run without stable supply.

Businesses that rely on refrigeration or continuous power should consider transferring perishable stock to alternative locations or using backup generators where available. Small enterprises may also want to communicate the temporary disruption to customers and adjust opening hours if necessary.

Safety and contact information

MESCOM reminded consumers to avoid operating elevators, heavy machinery or electrically powered pumps during the outage window unless they have approved backup systems. The utility also warned against attempting unauthorised repairs to the distribution network and asked the public to report any emergencies or unsafe situations to the nearest MESCOM office.

Customers seeking further clarification or wishing to report issues can contact MESCOM through the numbers provided in the press release or use the utility’s online complaint portal. Keeping contact details for local MESCOM offices accessible will help in the event of unplanned extensions to the outage.

Context and note

Planned outages are a routine part of distribution network management. They enable inspection, equipment replacement and upgrades that help prevent larger, unplanned failures. While inconvenient, these short-term interruptions are commonly scheduled to ensure longer-term reliability.

Residents are advised to monitor official MESCOM channels for any last-minute changes to the schedule or for information about restoration times. Those with critical electrical needs should confirm backup arrangements ahead of the outage.

MESCOM’s press release did not specify the precise nature of the works to be undertaken, nor an expected time for full restoration beyond the windows provided. Updates will be released if the situation changes.
