Authorities in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have imposed tight security measures as residents prepare to welcome the New Year. The Commissionerate Police have announced extensive checking, multiple checkpoints and 24-hour CCTV coverage to ensure public safety during zero-night celebrations.

Bhubaneswar Cuttack New Year security measures

In Bhubaneswar, police have erected barricades at 18 locations and deployed 18 additional platoons across the city. Watch teams will carry out checks at 29 major intersections while Quick Reaction Teams will remain on alert after midnight. Hotels, bars and pubs have been permitted to host programmes only until midnight and playing DJs in residential campuses or colonies has been prohibited.

Special security arrangements have been put in place at key tourist and religious destinations, including Nandankanan, Dhauli, Lingaraj Temple and Khandagiri, where a higher volume of visitors is expected. Authorities stressed that women’s safety is a priority and that vehicles of drunk drivers will be seized to deter dangerous behaviour.

Police posture and public appeals

In Cuttack, police have deployed 15 platoons to maintain vigilance through the night. Twin City Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh personally reviewed arrangements at Master Canteen Square and warned that indiscipline will be met with firm action. Officers emphasised that the aim is to allow citizens to enjoy festivities while ensuring law and order is maintained.

Commissioner Singh reiterated that checkpoints and watch teams will operate throughout the night. He said strict action will be taken against anyone who disturbs public order or endangers others by consuming excessive alcohol. The police appeal calls on residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly and follow the prescribed guidelines.

Enforcement and recent enforcement context

The Commissionerate noted recent enforcement successes as part of the wider effort to maintain public safety. Officers pointed to a significant seizure of around 5 kilograms of brown sugar, one of the largest in the state, and said that drug peddlers will face stringent action while victims are offered rehabilitation support.

The zero-tolerance stance includes vehicle checks, the potential seizure of vehicles involved in drunk driving, and targeted patrols in areas likely to draw crowds. Police teams will use CCTV feeds and on-ground patrols to monitor hotspots and respond quickly to incidents.

Local businesses and residents have been urged to follow the restrictions. Hotel and venue managers must ensure events end by midnight and maintain order on their premises. Residents have been reminded to avoid playing loud music in residential colonies.

As celebrations begin, officials say the focus is on balancing the public’s desire to celebrate with the need to prevent accidents, disorder and criminal activity. The strengthened security posture aims to protect both locals and visitors and to ensure that New Year festivities pass off peacefully.

Key Takeaways:

  • Authorities in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have stepped up Bhubaneswar Cuttack New Year security with checkpoints, CCTV and additional platoons.
  • Hotels and pubs may operate only until midnight and DJs in residential areas are banned to curb disturbances.
  • Special measures target women’s safety, drunk driving and crowd control at major tourist and religious sites.
  • Police warn of strict action against lawbreakers and cited recent large drug seizures as part of enforcement efforts.
