City authorities have opened a new kindergarten in Moscow’s Timiryazevsky district, the mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, announced on his channel. The facility at Astradamskaya Street, house 15v, is designed for 150 children and forms part of the city’s Address Investment Programme.
Moscow kindergarten design and facilities
The single-storey building covers nearly 3,000 square metres and uses contemporary but straightforward architectural solutions. The exterior is clad in porcelain stoneware tiles in grey and white tones, while window frames are highlighted with a bright bronze contour. Inside, the vestibule is decorated with a sculptural decorative tree intended to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Interior palettes favour calm shades of grey, olive and white.
Children’s rooms feature murals of trees, and outdoor play areas are animated with images of animals, storybook characters and space-themed scenes. The kindergarten includes several group rooms, a physical education hall, a music hall, a medical office and a food preparation unit operating a full technological cycle. The building is adapted for children and adults with limited mobility.
Landscaping around the site has been completed with play and sports areas, new trees and shrubs. Security has been prioritised: the premises are covered by video surveillance both inside and outside the building.
Mayor Sobyanin described the new facility as combining simplicity with modern design. “The building for 150 children features simple but modern architectural solutions. The vestibule is decorated with a decorative tree, creating a cosy and warm atmosphere. Interior finishes use calm shades of grey, olive and white,” he wrote.
The project benefited from collaboration with young talent. Valeria Gordeeva, a student at the Moscow Architectural Institute (MARCHI) and an emerging architect, contributed to the design and interior detailing.
The kindergarten sits close to several residential developments, including new housing delivered under the city’s renovation programme. A recently handed-over block on Astradamsky Proezd, house 9, is about a three-minute walk away. Another residential complex on Timiryazevskaya Street, house 8, building 2, is approximately ten minutes on foot. Timiryazevsky Park is also within easy reach, offering additional outdoor recreation options for families.
Local education expansion in north Moscow has been active in recent years. Since 2011, city authorities have completed 84 educational facilities in the area, and a further 13 buildings remain under construction. The new kindergarten adds to that capacity and reflects the municipal focus on matching social infrastructure to recent housing developments.
Officials said the new facility will begin admitting children in the coming weeks, with staffing and operational plans aligned to meet demand from nearby neighbourhoods.
