The Kerala government has announced that applications for the Chief Minister’s women’s safety scheme will reopen on Thursday morning after a planned Spark software update. Officials said the ksmart.lsgkerala.gov.in portal will be unavailable from Wednesday at 3pm until Thursday at 5am while technicians complete the maintenance.
Under the scheme, eligible women who are not already recipients of existing social security pensions will receive a monthly cash assistance of Rs 1,000. The programme aims to provide targeted financial support to women in Kerala and includes trans women as beneficiaries where they meet the eligibility criteria.
Kerala women’s safety scheme application
The scheme is available to permanent residents of Kerala aged between 35 and 60. Applicants must hold either an Antyodaya Anna card (commonly known as the ‘yellow’ card for the poorest households) or a priority ration card (the ‘pink’ card). State officials emphasised that the scheme is designed for those who do not already receive benefits from other major social pensions.
Certain categories are explicitly excluded. Women receiving widow, unmarried woman, disability, family or service pensions, employees in central or state government services, staff of government-owned enterprises and universities are not eligible for this assistance. The state has also ruled out benefits transfer to heirs in the event of a beneficiary’s death.
Applicants must provide proof of age. Acceptable documents include a birth certificate, school certificate, driving licence or passport. Applicants who cannot produce any of these documents may submit a certificate issued by a medical officer. In addition, bank account details, IFSC code and Aadhaar information must be submitted with the application.
Every application must include a self-declared affidavit certifying the accuracy of the information supplied. Beneficiaries are required to undergo an annual Aadhaar-based verification, known as ‘mastering’, to continue receiving the payment. Officials advised applicants to ensure their Aadhaar details are up to date to avoid delays during verification.
Residents intending to apply should prepare the necessary documents in advance and submit their application through the local self-government secretaries via the ksmart.lsgkerala.gov.in portal once it reopens. Local secretariats will receive and process applications on behalf of applicants.
Authorities urged applicants to be aware of the exclusion clauses before applying. The state administration said the programme complements other welfare measures and is intended to reach women who fall outside existing pension schemes. Those with questions about eligibility or the submission process were directed to contact their local panchayat or municipal office for guidance.
The temporary outage for the Spark update is intended to improve the stability and performance of the portal. The government asked users to avoid submitting applications during the maintenance window to prevent data loss and to check the portal status after the scheduled restart on Thursday morning.
