Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, has urged residents to unite in confronting insecurity and to throw their support behind the New Niger Agenda as the state begins 2026. In a New Year message, the Speaker highlighted the need for collective action to secure communities and accelerate development.
Niger State security and unity
Speaking to Nigerlites, Sarkin-Daji said the government is taking steps to ensure the safety of citizens and to guarantee that children return to school when the new term begins this January. “The government is doing everything possible to ensure that the State is secure and that children safely return to school this January, as education remains a top priority for sustainable development,” he said.
The Speaker framed security and education as twin priorities for the Assembly. He underlined that restoring safety to communities will allow economic and social programmes to take root, while safe schools are essential to long-term development.
Sarkin-Daji also assured residents of the House of Assembly’s commitment to its legislative duties and to people-oriented programmes. He said lawmakers would sustain a cordial working relationship with other arms of government, especially the Executive, to ensure effective and purposeful initiatives that benefit Nigerlites.
“The House of Assembly will sustain the existing cordial relationship with other arms of government, especially the Executive arm, to ensure effective, purposeful and people-oriented government programmes that will positively impact the lives of Nigerlites,” he stated. The emphasis on cooperation reflects a desire to streamline policy implementation across branches of government.
The Speaker praised Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s Agricultural Transformation Programme, describing it as a key driver of economic growth, food security and improved livelihoods. He said the programme would help diversify the state’s economy and boost incomes for rural households dependent on farming.
As he closed his message, Sarkin-Daji expressed optimism that 2026 would be a year of peace, progress and prosperity for Niger State. He wished residents a peaceful and fulfilling New Year and called for unity, cooperation and prayers for continued stability across the state and the country.
Observers note that the Speaker’s appeal comes amid wider efforts by state authorities to restore normalcy and improve basic services. By foregrounding education and agricultural development alongside security, the Assembly signals a focus on measures that can deliver tangible benefits to communities.
Community leaders and stakeholders have been urged to contribute to the New Niger Agenda, working with government and security agencies to build safer neighbourhoods and to create the conditions for sustained development.
