Porto Nacional will host Porto Folia 2026 between 13 and 17 February, city officials have confirmed, signalling the return of the municipality’s official carnival after its cancellation last year. The headline act already announced is Chiclete com Banana, one of Brazil’s best-known axé bands. Organisers say several further major names will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Porto Folia 2026 returns to Porto Nacional

The five-day festival will revive the municipality’s long-standing carnival traditions, including the revival of street blocs and the historic Pau D’óleo thoroughfare that has acted as the epicentre of local celebrations. Alongside national acts, the programme will include multiple regional bands, maintaining a balance between popular headliners and local talent.

According to municipal authorities, the event was suspended in 2025 because of severe fiscal constraints, notably a sharp drop in ICMS transfers that affected the city budget. Organisers say they have since secured the necessary partnerships and funding to stage a major festival in 2026. The full schedule of performers and the detailed programme will be published in early January.

“Porto Nacional has a strong carnival tradition. After a very difficult 2025 we worked to create the right conditions and to secure partners so that we can deliver a great festival in 2026. We expect, without doubt, the best carnival in the state,” said a city official involved in the event’s organisation.

Officials are positioning Porto Folia 2026 not only as a cultural highlight but also as an important stimulus for the local economy. Carnival events typically bring increased demand for accommodation, food services and transport, and organisers are planning initiatives to help local businesses benefit from the influx of visitors. The municipality expects the festival to support jobs and to boost tourism in Porto Nacional and the surrounding region.

The Pau D’óleo, referenced in municipal announcements, is a historic street in Porto Nacional known for hosting lively street carnival gatherings. Once included in the state tourism calendar, the thoroughfare has been a focal point for popular festivities and community participation, and organisers intend to reinstate its central role at Porto Folia 2026.

Chiclete com Banana’s confirmation is expected to draw significant attention. The band’s presence underscores organisers’ ambition to combine national star power with the region’s grassroots carnival culture. City officials said at least three additional headline performers will be confirmed in the coming days, with a complete programme release planned for early January.

Local leaders acknowledge the financial hurdles that prompted last year’s break, and they say lessons learned will guide a more resilient organisation for 2026. Event managers are pursuing public and private partnerships to ensure stable funding and to deliver public safety, infrastructure and audience services.

As the countdown to February begins, residents and potential visitors are advised to watch for the municipality’s official calendar and ticket information. With national acts, a return to traditional street blocs and a renewed focus on local bands, Porto Folia 2026 aims to restore Porto Nacional’s reputation as a key carnival destination in the state of Tocantins, Brazil.

Key Takeaways:

  • Porto Folia 2026 will run from 13 to 17 February in Porto Nacional, Brazil, with Chiclete com Banana confirmed as a headline act.
  • At least three more major performers will be announced, alongside the return of street blocs, regional bands and the historic Pau D’óleo carnival street.
  • The event marks a recovery after the 2025 cancellation linked to reduced ICMS transfers, enabled by new municipal partnerships and funding.
