Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Abbas Tajudeen and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu have declared 2026 a year of hope for Nigeria, urging citizens to remain united and to build on the gains recorded in 2025. In separate messages delivered for the new year, both leaders emphasised resilience, national unity and a renewed focus on people-centred governance.

Nigeria 2026 Year of Hope

Addressing the nation, Speaker Abbas—through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi—commended Nigerians for their patience and perseverance during a challenging 2025. He said that while the past year presented difficulties, it also witnessed notable progress in governance and security, with state agencies intensifying efforts to restore peace across troubled areas.

“In every new dawn lies a promise,” the Speaker said, appealing for collaboration across faiths, regions and political affiliations to advance national development. He affirmed the legislature’s commitment to pass laws that promote economic stability, inclusiveness and the welfare of all citizens, and pledged that parliamentary action will align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu offered a similar message of optimism and gratitude, thanking God for guiding Nigerians into 2026 and urging the nation to harness collective energy to create opportunities for all. Kalu extended warm wishes to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora and called on communities to strengthen bonds and work towards a prosperous future.

“This year holds endless possibilities, hope and promise,” Kalu said, urging citizens to support government efforts to tackle core challenges. He assured Nigerians that the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress government is committed to serving with dedication and integrity, listening to the aspirations of the people and delivering practical solutions to improve lives.

Both leaders highlighted specific priorities for the year ahead, including policy measures to uplift the economy, strengthen national security and improve the quality of life for ordinary Nigerians. The House leadership said it would pursue legislation aimed at economic stability and social inclusion, targeting sectors that directly affect livelihoods and public welfare.

Their statements make clear that the legislature sees itself as a partner in national recovery and development. By promoting consensus across the political divide and working with the executive, the House aims to translate public expectations into actionable laws and programmes.

Analysts say the message comes at a time when public confidence will be key to sustaining reform momentum. Successful implementation of security and economic measures will depend on continued cooperation between government institutions, the private sector and communities nationwide.

As the country steps into 2026, the Reps leadership’s call for unity and purposeful lawmaking provides a roadmap for the year: reinforce security, prioritise inclusive growth and ensure that legislative actions reflect the needs of citizens. Whether those pledges translate into measurable improvements will depend on transparent oversight, timely policy delivery and sustained civic engagement.

For now, the House leadership is asking Nigerians to keep faith and to join in the collective task of turning challenges into opportunities for a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
