Shira village boosts local services with new panchayat building in India

Local leaders in Shira urged the central government to release long-promised funds as a newly constructed Gram Panchayat building in Huyil Dore village was inaugurated on Wednesday. The event, attended by elected representatives and local officials, highlighted ongoing concerns about delayed central allocations for key rural schemes.

Shira rural development India funding and projects

MLA T.B. Jayachandra, speaking at the inauguration, said that the name of the employment guarantee scheme matters less than timely action by the central government. He warned that without prompt release of funds the implementation of flagship programmes will stall at the village level.

Jayachandra drew attention to the Jal Jeevan Mission and other house-to-house water supply initiatives, saying that central grants have not been released and this has held back execution in several panchayats. He also noted a central commitment of ₹5,300 crore for the Bhadra Mealdande project, described by officials as a national-level scheme, but said the promised funding has not yet reached the state.

“Only when projects are funded and implemented will Shira and Chikkanayakanahalli taluks see real development,” the MLA said. His remarks reflected wider frustration among local stakeholders who say delays in fund disbursal are hampering basic service delivery and infrastructure upgrades.

Speaking soon after, Chikkanayakanahalli MLA C.B. Suresh Babu pointed out that within the constituency some hoblis have received larger shares of the available funds. He said Bukkapatna hobli had obtained more substantial allocations in recent rounds and called for a fairer distribution to ensure all areas benefit.

Suresh Babu also recalled financial decisions taken during the earlier H.D. Kumaraswamy administration, saying that a major loan waiver of around ₹29,000 crore had been obtained without first seeking central approval. He suggested that subsequent political and administrative changes have affected the pace of development and access to resources.

The inauguration drew a number of local officials and development functionaries. Those present included H. Mahesh, chairman of the Forest Development Corporation; S.R. Gowda, director of the Tumkur division; taluk panchayat executive officer Harish; village panchayat chairperson Rajamma Chandra Naik and vice-chair Lakshmi Timmayya. Other attendees included PDO Kanakappa Hanumappa, AE Rajanna, and local leaders Manjulabai and Sheshanayak.

Residents welcomed the new panchayat building as a practical improvement for access to basic services and local administration. Officials said the facility will host meetings, service counters and community activities, providing a base for better delivery of welfare schemes.

However, both MLAs stressed that infrastructure alone is not enough. They called on central and state authorities to ensure timely release of promised grants, particularly for employment guarantee programmes and water supply initiatives, so that construction and service delivery proceed without further delay.

The event underscored the gap between policy announcements and on-the-ground implementation. Local representatives said they will continue to press higher authorities for rapid disbursal of funds to translate announced commitments into visible benefits for villagers across the Shira and Chikkanayakanahalli taluks.

Key Takeaways:

  • Shira rural development India receives a visible boost as a new Gram Panchayat building is inaugurated in Huyil Dore village.
  • MLA T.B. Jayachandra criticised delays in central funding for employment guarantee and water supply schemes.
  • Promised central grants for the Bhadra project and other state schemes remain unreleased, officials say.
  • Local leaders highlighted uneven fund distribution within the constituency and called for prompt release of funds to accelerate development.
