The logo for the Idappalayam Carnival was unveiled in Dubai at a ceremony organised by the Ettappal Forum, signalling the launch of preparations for a cultural festival aimed at the Malayali expatriate community across the United Arab Emirates. The gathering brought together community leaders from Dubai and Abu Dhabi and set out the carnival’s objective to showcase regional arts, traditions and community solidarity in the UAE.

Idappalayam Carnival Dubai draws community leaders

The unveiling was conducted by Ettappal Forum group chairman Abdullatheef V. P. The event, held at the Ettappal Forum centre in Dubai, featured speeches and congratulations from several prominent community representatives. Jamal Vattamkulam, head of Kairali TV Middle East, was present along with public representatives such as Najeeb and Abdul Majeed Kazhunkil, who offered their support for the carnival.

Fakhruddin Kazhunkil, president of the Idappalayam Dubai chapter, chaired the ceremony. Delegates from both the Dubai and Abu Dhabi chapters attended, including Abu Dhabi executive member Ashiq Kottillil, Dubai chapter joint secretary Majeed Thiruthi, executive member Najeeb Kallinjal and Noufal Vattamkulam. Organisers said the logo launch marks the first formal step in what they expect to be a widespread cultural programme held in multiple locations across the UAE.

Organisers told attendees that the Idappalayam Carnival will serve as a platform for the Malayali community to present traditional arts, music and cuisine while also engaging with the broader expatriate population and local residents. The forum described the carnival as a unifying stage for people across different emirates to celebrate shared heritage and strengthen community ties.

Community leaders emphasised the importance of collaboration between chapter offices in staging events that attract families, artists and small businesses. They outlined plans to host cultural performances, stalls highlighting regional crafts and food, and activities for children and youth. The organisers also intend to involve media partners and local cultural groups to broaden the carnival’s reach and impact.

The event reflects a growing trend among expatriate communities in the UAE to create cultural fora that both preserve homeland traditions and contribute to the multicultural fabric of the country. By organising events such as the Idappalayam Carnival, community groups aim to provide social support for new arrivals, create networking opportunities for professionals, and promote cultural exchange with other communities living in the emirates.

With the logo now unveiled, Ettappal Forum leaders said they will move into the planning phase, confirming dates, venues and the full programme in the coming weeks. They encouraged local Malayali associations, artists and volunteers to participate and suggested sponsorship opportunities will be announced to support a larger public programme across the UAE.

Organisers conveyed optimism that the Idappalayam Carnival will become an anticipated annual event, drawing visitors from within the UAE and from neighbouring states. They underlined their commitment to run the carnival as an inclusive event that showcases cultural heritage while strengthening community bonds among residents of the emirates.

Key Takeaways:
