Warangal — The Akshaya Patra Foundation has substantially increased its operational capacity in Telangana after Minister Konda Surekha inaugurated a suite of modern kitchen equipment and new facilities at the charity’s centralised kitchen in Warangal. The upgrades, commissioned on 22 December 2025, will strengthen the Foundation’s delivery of mid-day meals to schoolchildren across the region.
Akshaya Patra Warangal kitchen reaches new capacity
The centralised kitchen in Warangal now prepares and delivers fresh, hygienic meals to nearly 26,000 children enrolled in 367 government schools and Anganwadi centres in Warangal district, as well as 550 Anganwadi centres in Hanumakonda district. The enhancements are intended to boost efficiency, consistency and scale while maintaining strict food-safety standards.
HDB Financial Services sponsored the state-of-the-art equipment, enabling the facility to adopt automated systems that significantly reduce cooking times. According to the Foundation, the upgraded kitchen can cook rice for 1,000 children in about 15 minutes and prepare sambar for 5,000 children in under two hours. New units include an automated snack-production line, vegetable-washing and cutting machines, automated curry-making systems, high-capacity rice steamers and sambar cauldrons.
Minister Konda Surekha, who presided over the inauguration, also opened a dedicated office block and a quality testing laboratory within the kitchen complex. She praised the Foundation’s work and reiterated the State Government’s commitment to support initiatives that improve child nutrition and education.
“The Akshaya Patra Foundation’s mission of providing meals for education aligns with our priorities to ensure every child receives nutritious food at school,” the Minister said, commending the Foundation and its partners for their contribution to public welfare.
Trustee and Regional President Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Prabhuji highlighted how modern technology has enabled delivery at scale without compromising food quality. He thanked HDB Financial Services for sponsoring the equipment and acknowledged the support of the Chief Minister, local officials and donors who have aided the Foundation’s expansion in the Warangal region.
Beyond capacity gains, the kitchen has incorporated sustainability measures to reduce its environmental footprint. The facility operates with RO-treated water, a solar power plant and systems designed for zero discharge, underlining an emphasis on hygiene, resource efficiency and regulatory compliance.
In addition to the equipment inauguration, officials flagged off two custom-built Akshaya Patra distribution vehicles to support last-mile delivery. Attendees at the event included Gundu Sudharani, Mayor of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation; K. R. Nagaraju, MLA; and Dr Satya Sharada, District Collector of Warangal, alongside representatives from HDB Financial Services and Akshaya Patra.
The upgrades at the Akshaya Patra Warangal kitchen are expected to improve meal quality and delivery times, enabling the Foundation to meet rising demand and reach more children effectively. With government backing and private sponsorship, the initiative represents a collaborative approach to tackling classroom hunger and supporting educational outcomes in the region.
