Hyderabad International Kite Festival Set to Brighten Sankranthi at Parade Grounds

The Telangana government will host the Hyderabad International Kite Festival from 13 to 15 January at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, bringing a three-day programme of kite flying, cultural performances and family activities to mark Sankranthi.

Hyderabad International Kite Festival Plans and Programmes

Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao conducted a review of arrangements for the festival following directions from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The review covered logistics, crowd management, safety protocols and stage planning as officials moved to finalise details ahead of the mid-January celebrations. Ministers concerned are scheduled to review arrangements in the first week of January to ensure seamless execution.

Organisers say the festival will be held on a grand scale to reflect Hyderabad’s festive spirit. Parade Grounds, a central and well-known venue, will host competitive and recreational kite flying, with designated zones for international and local participants. The schedule will include choreographed kite displays, demonstration flights and opportunities for community groups to take part.

Logistics, Safety and Visitor Experience

Officials emphasised safety and visitor convenience during the planning review. Measures under consideration include regulated entry points, clear signage, first-aid stations and designated parking to manage traffic around the Parade Grounds. Event managers are coordinating with local police, fire services and emergency medical teams to deploy adequate personnel and equipment.

Food stalls, handicraft vendors and cultural tents will provide a marketplace atmosphere intended to support small traders and artisans. Organisers expect the festival to attract families and tourists, providing a boost to local businesses in the hospitality and retail sectors.

Hot Air Balloon Festival Complements Kite Activities

Alongside kite events at Parade Grounds, a hot air balloon festival will be organised on the outskirts of the city to broaden the celebrations. The balloon event aims to offer scenic tethered flights and aerial displays that complement the kites overhead. Organisers plan to stagger schedules so visitors may attend both events without congestion.

Transport arrangements will be advised closer to the date, with shuttle services likely to operate between key points and the Parade Grounds. Accessibility measures will be put in place for elderly visitors and those with mobility needs.

Community Impact and Cultural Significance

The festival is designed to highlight regional culture during Sankranthi, a harvest festival that draws communities together. By inviting international participants, Telangana seeks to raise Hyderabad’s profile as a cultural destination while offering residents a vibrant public event. Officials anticipate that the festival will generate increased footfall and support seasonal economic activity for vendors and hospitality providers.

With final reviews scheduled in early January, organisers have signalled that they aim for a well-managed celebration that balances spectacle with safety. The three-day event at Parade Grounds, together with the hot air balloon activities, will offer an expansive programme to mark Sankranthi and showcase Hyderabad’s festive energy.
