Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday appealed to senior state officials to ensure that government services reach citizens without delay and that public servants respond to the public with impartiality and compassion. Speaking at a New Year event after exchanging greetings with senior officials, the chief minister stressed that timely delivery of essential services is not merely administrative practice but a duty of governance.
Karnataka service delivery expectations for officials
In a clear message to the bureaucracy, Siddaramaiah said delays in service provision amount to a form of wrongdoing and urged officers to prioritise citizens’ hardships. He set out the government’s aim to build an inclusive society in which constitutional guarantees translate into equal opportunities and decentralised rights for all communities.
The chief minister reiterated the state’s commitment to social and economic justice, invoking the ideas of Dr B.R. Ambedkar that political freedom alone is insufficient unless backed by social and economic emancipation. Officials were instructed to make every effort to ensure those historically deprived receive their lawful entitlements.
Siddaramaiah also highlighted recent efforts to respond to agricultural distress. He noted that while good rains in 2025 alleviated some problems, crop damage still affected 12 lakh (1.2 million) hectares of farmland. The state had implemented compensation of Rs 8,500 per hectare for losses such as drought and irrigation failures in 2025, intended to provide immediate relief to farmers.
To meet relief obligations, the chief minister said compensation will be provided from both central and state disaster funds. The Centre will allocate aid from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) while the Karnataka government will use the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Siddaramaiah added that the state will offer additional support where necessary to address farmers’ hardships.
Speaking on governance, he called on officials to act beyond political criticism, noting that opposition parties often offer criticism as a matter of course but that the administration must focus on responding to citizens’ needs. The government’s declared objective is to secure justice for all residents of the state and to ensure prosperity, peace and wellbeing for the poor and farmer communities.
During his address, the chief minister extended New Year wishes, expressing hope that 2026 brings prosperity and peace to Karnataka and relief for marginalised communities. He emphasised the role of public servants in translating policy into tangible benefits, urging that services be delivered on time and without discrimination.
Officials were reminded that prompt service delivery and a humane approach to the public are central to good administration. The chief minister’s remarks closed with an appeal to redouble efforts to reach the disadvantaged and to uphold the constitutional promise of equal opportunity and decentralised rights across the state.
