Key Takeaways:

  • Jayshree Ullal tops the Hurun Rich List 2025 with a net worth of $5.7 billion.
  • Arista Networks reported $7 billion in revenue in 2024, up 20% year-on-year, and Ullal owns nearly 3% of the company.
  • Ullal’s rise from Delhi to the helm of a leading cloud networking firm highlights India’s growing role in global technology leadership.

Jayshree Ullal Tops Hurun Rich List with $5.7bn Net Worth

Jayshree Ullal, the Indian-origin president and chief executive of Arista Networks, has been named the world’s richest self-made woman entrepreneur on the Hurun Rich List 2025 with a net worth of $5.7 billion (about 7,50,170 crore). The milestone places her ahead of several prominent global technology leaders, including Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella and Google chief executive Sundar Pichai.

Jayshree Ullal and Arista’s commercial rise

Under Ullal’s leadership since 2008, Arista Networks has grown from a modest cloud networking start-up into a major supplier of high-performance switching and routing equipment for cloud data centres. The company reported revenue of $7 billion in 2024, a 20 per cent increase on the previous year, figures that have underpinned Ullal’s estimated stake of nearly 3 per cent in Arista.

Arista’s performance in recent years has reflected growing demand for data-centre networking as cloud providers expand their infrastructure. Ullal also serves on the board of Snowflake, the cloud data platform that floated in 2020, further embedding her role in the wider cloud ecosystem.

From Delhi to Silicon Valley leadership

Born in London and raised in Delhi, Ullal moved to the United States for higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from San Francisco State University and a master’s in engineering management from Santa Clara University. She began her career at AMD and Fairchild Semiconductor before joining Cisco Systems in 1993. Over a 15-year period at Cisco she rose to senior vice-president and helped scale the company’s data-centre business.

In 2008 Ullal took the helm at Arista, when the company was little known outside niche networking circles. Her tenure has been characterised by disciplined product strategy and close alignment with large cloud customers, enabling Arista to capture market share from more established rivals.

Recognition and wider significance

Beyond the Hurun accolade, Ullal ranks eighth on America’s Richest Self-Made Women list and has been a regular on Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business. She remains one of the relatively few female chief executives of a Fortune 500 company.

The story of Jayshree Ullal carries wider significance for India and BRICS members: it highlights the global reach of talent originating in the region and the impact such leaders can have on multinational technology markets. Her success also underscores the commercial opportunities tied to cloud infrastructure, a sector that continues to attract heavy investment.

Analysts say Ullal’s position is the result of sustained company growth, strategic shareholding and favourable market conditions for cloud networking. While billionaire rankings fluctuate with markets and share prices, Arista’s recent results and Ullal’s long-standing leadership position suggest her profile in technology and business circles will remain prominent.

As the technology sector evolves, figures such as Jayshree Ullal illustrate how leadership, ownership and execution combine to create long-term value for companies and their stakeholders, and how individuals from BRICS nations continue to shape the global tech economy.
