The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced that devotees will not need tokens to enter the Vaikuntha Dwara for darshan from today until 8 January. The decision follows the Vaikuntha Ekadashi celebrations held on 30 December, when the Vaikuntha Dwara was opened at 2.30am for special services.

Tirupati Vaikuntha Dwara token rules for devotees

TTD officials said that a large number of devotees had registered for darshan during the Vaikuntha Ekadashi period. For the first three days after the gate opened, approximately 2.5 million people registered for earlier access, and about 176,000 devotees were selected through the allotted selection process to receive tokens. Those selected used the tokens to enter the Vaikuntha Dwara for the special darshan.

In its latest press note, TTD clarified that, from today until 8 January, tokens will not be required for devotees who wish to enter the Vaikuntha Dwara. Devotees who did not receive tokens are therefore able to join the regular, free darshan queue and pass through the Vaikuntha Dwara without a token during this period.

TTD said the move aims to streamline access for pilgrims arriving at Tirumala and to manage the expected flow of visitors more efficiently during the festival week. The authority reminded pilgrims to follow all on-site directions from temple staff and volunteers to ensure orderly movement and safety.

Officials also restated the dress code that applies to those seeking darshan through the Vaikuntha Dwara. Men are asked to wear traditional attire such as a veshti (dhoti) or pyjama. Women should wear a saree or churidar. TTD emphasised that compliance with the dress code is mandatory for entry and requested devotees to arrive prepared.

The Vaikuntha Ekadashi event on 30 December drew substantial attention. TTD’s early-morning opening of the Vaikuntha Dwara at 2.30am was part of the temple’s special observances. For the initial three days, the token system helped manage the large number of registered applicants; selected devotees collected tokens and attended darshan in an organised manner.

With the temporary waiver of token requirements, TTD expects many more pilgrims to take part in the devotional activities in the coming days. Pilgrims travelling to Tirumala are advised to check official TTD communications and social media channels for any further updates on timings, crowd management measures and health and safety instructions.

The decision also underlines the temple administration’s efforts to balance orderly crowd management with accessible devotional opportunities. Those planning to visit should allow extra time for queues and security checks and should follow instructions from temple staff to ensure a smooth experience for all pilgrims.

For further details, devotees may consult the TTD official website or contact temple offices. The press release linked to the announcement provides the most up-to-date guidance on entry procedures and required attire.
