On the evening of 1 January, the façade of the Da Nang Museum, the French-era former Town Hall at 42-44 Bạch Đằng, became a theatrical stage as the city welcomed the New Year. Twenty-seven windows along the museum front were used as performance frames for the second Da Nang concert, titled “Dòng chảy bất tận” or “Endless Flow”.

The event formed part of Da Nang’s official New Year festival organised by the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. From 19:00 visitors and residents began converging on Bạch Đằng Street. By nightfall the Hàn Riverbank had filled with audiences keen to enjoy a specially curated programme that aimed to reflect the continuity of culture and memory.

Da Nang concert celebrates culture on the Hàn River

The Da Nang concert was arranged as a three-part musical journey. The opening movement, described as a flow of memory, set a reflective tone with emotive melodies intended to evoke personal and collective recollections. The second movement, framed as a flow of legend, brought together global masterpieces and works rooted in Vietnamese cultural material set within contemporary symphonic structures. The final movement, flow of harmony, closed the evening with pieces designed to carry humanistic messages of connection and renewal.

The programme explored a careful fusion of genres. Orchestral and semi-classical passages met electronic textures and contemporary folk influences, producing an open artistic language that sought both local identity and international resonance. The combination aimed to appeal to a wide audience while showcasing Da Nang’s capacity to stage ambitious cultural presentations on a historic riverside landmark dating back to 1900.

Performers included a roster of well-known Vietnamese artists such as Võ Hạ Trâm, NSƯT Quang Hào, Khắc Huy, Anna and Ngọc Nhung, with MC Nguyên Khang guiding the evening. Their appearances delivered a mix of familiar songs and new arrangements crafted for the event’s thematic arc.

Among the audience was visitor Mỹ Hà from Huế, who was on a family trip to Da Nang for the New Year holiday. She said it was her first time hearing live music presented in such a distinctive and romantic setting. “The music was beautiful and the atmosphere made a strong impression on me and my family,” she said, describing the experience as a memorable way to start the year.

City officials say events of this kind are part of wider efforts to boost cultural tourism and to animate heritage sites through creative programming. Using the historic Town Hall façade as a performing surface underscored Da Nang’s intention to put heritage at the centre of contemporary public life while drawing both domestic and international visitors to its riverfront.

As crowds dispersed after the concert, organisers noted positive public response and pledged continued investment in cultural events that highlight Da Nang’s history and its evolving role as a destination for arts and celebration.

Key Takeaways:

  • Da Nang concert transformed the façade of the 126-year-old former Town Hall into a 27-window stage for New Year celebrations.
  • The programme “Dòng chảy bất tận” blended symphonic, semi-classical, electronic and contemporary folk music across three movements.
  • Thousands lined the Hàn River to watch live performances by Vietnamese artists, enhancing Da Nang’s cultural tourism appeal.
