Ahmedabad has opened its 14th International Flower Show at the Sabarmati Riverfront, inaugurating a major cultural event that will run until 22 January 2026. Organised under the theme “Bharat Ek Gatha”, the exhibition brings together floral art, cultural motifs and sustainability initiatives, and has become a centrepiece of New Year celebrations in Gujarat.
Ahmedabad International Flower Show 2026 highlights record floral artwork
The show’s headline attraction is the world’s largest floral artwork created to honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, prepared for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. Organisers say three million flowers have been used across the displays, which are organised into six major zones. A striking 30-metre floral mandala symbolising national unity sits at the heart of the exhibition.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the event, accompanied by the Ahmedabad Mayor, local MLAs and senior municipal officials. At the opening ceremony a sculpture themed on women’s empowerment was unveiled. A floral recreation recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, inspired by Diwali, also forms one of the show’s centrepieces.
Zones combine tradition, modern achievement and family attractions
Each of the six zones carries a sub-theme. The festival zone showcases Indian celebrations through floral art, including Diwali, Holi, Onam and Bihu. The Shashvat Bharat zone recreates episodes from India’s mythological heritage, such as Samudra Manthan and Govardhan Leela, while a dance zone presents classical and folk forms like Kuchipudi, Garba and Kathakali, anchored by an idol of Lord Nataraja.
A dedicated children’s zone provides family-friendly installations and character displays. Another zone highlights modern India’s achievements, with floral depictions of high-speed rail, renewable energy, space technology and sporting success. Together the exhibits aim to link cultural continuity with present-day innovation.
Sustainability and visitor experience
In line with environmental goals, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has installed a sprinkler irrigation network across 10,524 square metres of the show ground to maintain seasonal plants without traditional tractor or pipe watering. Special audio guides are available via QR codes placed around the exhibition, offering visitors information on the flowers, sculptures and individual zones.
Organisers say the exhibition will promote environmental awareness, biodiversity and eco-friendly practices in the city while encouraging citizen engagement in cultural conservation. The show is expected to draw nature and culture enthusiasts from across the country.
