Union Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in the conclusion of the state-wide yatra led by BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran in Pudukottai on 4 January 2026, party officials said on Thursday. The visit marks a high-profile endorsement of the BJP’s campaign activities across the state.

The yatra, titled “Thamizhagam Thalai Nimira Thamizhanin Payanam”, has traversed several districts, organisers said. BJP State general secretary Karuppu Muruganandham told reporters in Tiruchi that the procession had drawn attention in multiple localities as it made its way through the region ahead of the Pudukottai finale.

Party sources said a substantial arrangement is being made in Pudukottai to accommodate the Home Minister and the expected crowds. Mr Shah is scheduled to meet members of the BJP’s high-level committee at a hotel in Tiruchi on 4 January to review the political situation in Tamil Nadu and offer strategic guidance, Nainar Nagenthran said.

The central leader’s visit underlines the party’s emphasis on state-level mobilisation. Mr Nagenthran’s yatra has been presented by the BJP as an effort to connect with grass‑roots supporters and build momentum ahead of forthcoming political contests. Senior party officials have described the Pudukottai event as a BJP‑organised public meeting rather than an allied function.

When asked whether alliance partners would join the Pudukottai programme, Mr Nagenthran pointed out that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is scheduled to campaign in Salem on the same day. That scheduling, he said, meant the Pudukottai event would remain a BJP-centric occasion.

Following the Pudukottai appearance, Mr Shah will take part in Pongal celebrations organised by the party at the military ground in Tiruchi on 5 January. Officials expect around 2,000 families to attend the festival event, which the BJP is using as both a cultural outreach and a community engagement exercise.

Political analysts say visits by senior national leaders can sharpen local campaigning and attract media attention, though they noted that outcomes depend on ground-level organisation and voter response. For now, the BJP is presenting the Pudukottai gathering as a culmination of a disciplined state-wide effort, with central leadership lending visibility to the concluding events.

Security and logistical arrangements for the two-day visit are being coordinated with local authorities, party organisers added. The visits by Mr Shah are timed to coincide with the widely observed Pongal festival, offering an opportunity for the party to combine political outreach with cultural festivities in the region.

Organisers said further details about timings and the programme flow will be released as the dates approach. The Pudukottai event, they stressed, will focus on connecting with supporters, reviewing organisational preparedness, and charting the BJP’s next steps in Tamil Nadu.
