H.P. Sridhar Gowda, chairman of the taluk committee overseeing the implementation of the state’s five-guarantee schemes, announced plans to bring an industrial area to Arakalagoodu taluk to provide local employment for educated young people.
Arakalagoodu industrial area to create local jobs
Speaking at the release of the 2026 calendar at Konanuru church, Mr Gowda said the primary aim of the proposal is to generate jobs within the taluk so that graduates and skilled workers need not move away in search of work. He highlighted progress under the state government’s five-guarantee initiative, saying Arakalagoodu had achieved 99.74 percent of its targets.
Mr Gowda outlined recent allocations under central and state schemes: ₹270 crore under the GruhaLakshmi housing scheme, ₹89 crore for Anna Bhagya food security, ₹121 crore for the Shakti power scheme, ₹41 crore under GruhaJyothi, and youth support of ₹3 crore distributed among 700 young beneficiaries.
He said that developing an industrial area would build on these gains by creating non-farm employment and absorbing local labour into manufacturing and allied services. “My goal is to provide employment locally for the educated youth of the taluk by establishing an industrial area in Arakalagoodu,” he said.
Mr Gowda also emphasised improvements in irrigation and agricultural support. He proposed designating Halli Mysuru as a taluk centre and bringing the Rangenahalli and Guddenahalli irrigation projects into full operation to raise farm incomes in the region.
Officials note that irrigation infrastructure is already present in parts of Konanuru and Ramanathapur, creating favourable conditions for agro-based industries. Mr Gowda pointed to the viability of a sugar factory, saying the area’s mix of ginger, tobacco and sugarcane offers scope to prioritise sugarcane as a cash crop and to add processing capacity locally.
“Starting a sugar mill here would support farmers and create many jobs,” he said, adding that the administration would work to secure farmer co-operation and investor interest for such a project.
The announcement attracted local leaders and stakeholders. Present at the event were Block Congress president Kabbaligere Somashekhar, director of the Farmers’ Co-op Praveen, and community leader Shahabaz, together with several residents who attended the calendar release.
Observers say the proposed industrial area, combined with strengthened irrigation and targeted support under welfare schemes, could help diversify the local economy and reduce migration to urban centres. The plan remains at the proposal stage and will require approval from higher authorities, land allocation and investment commitments before construction can begin.
Officials have been urged to present a clear timeline and investment plan, including infrastructure links, electricity supply and training for local workers, to make the industrial area viable. For now, the proposal signals a local push to align state development funds with industrial and agricultural initiatives to broaden income opportunities for the taluk’s residents.
