The Bengaluru City Traffic Police (BTP) have issued a travel advisory as the city prepares to host the 23rd edition of Chithra Santhe, the annual art fair that typically draws large crowds. To ensure pedestrian safety and smooth event operations, vehicle movement will be prohibited on both sides of Kumara Krupa Road, between Windsor Manor Junction and Shivananda Circle, from 5am until 10pm on Sunday.
Chithra Santhe Bengaluru traffic and diversions
Motorists are advised to avoid the immediate event corridor for the duration of the closure. The BTP has outlined several diversion routes to help drivers reach neighbouring areas while minimising disruption. From Anandrao Circle, vehicles bound for Windsor Manor should proceed straight at Race View Junction onto Race Course Road, continuing through Trilight Junction, Basaveshwara Circle and Old High Grounds Junction to reach T Chowdaiah Road. Commuters on T Chowdaiah Road aiming for Kumara Krupa Road should continue straight from Windsor Junction, pass Old High Grounds Junction, turn right at LRDE and proceed via Basaveshwara Junction.
Drivers from P G Halli heading towards Shivananda Circle have been advised to take Old High Grounds Junction, LRDE, Basaveshwara Circle and Race Course Road. Vehicles departing Nehru Circle can use the Steel Bridge for direct access to Trilight Junction. These diversions are intended to distribute traffic across adjacent corridors and reduce congestion near the fair.
Parking and public transport options
Recognising the shortage of parking close to the fair, the police have designated several locations for four-wheeler parking. Motorists may use space along Railway Parallel Road, the western side of Crescent Road (from Gururaja Kalyanamantapa to Hotel Janardhan) and the eastern side of Race Course Road (from Trilight Junction toward Mourya Circle). Organisers and the police have warned that space will be limited and demand is expected to be high.
To discourage private vehicle use and ease pressure on available spaces, the BTP has urged visitors to use public transport. The Metro and BMTC feeder services will operate specially scheduled services. BMTC will run feeder buses from Majestic, Shivajinagar and Mantri Square Metro stations directly to Shivananda Circle to provide reliable alternatives for attendees.
Advice for residents and visitors
The BTP has asked residents and visitors to plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time. Pedestrian zones and temporary barriers will be in place around the event area and police personnel will be deployed to manage crossings and enforce the closure. Emergency and authorised vehicles will be accommodated, but drivers should expect longer response times in the area.
Local businesses and residents have been notified in advance where possible, and organisers recommend arriving early if attending the fair. With the right planning and use of public transport, organisers expect the event to proceed smoothly while minimising inconvenience for the wider public.
