The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has announced extended metro operations for New Years Eve, with trains on key corridors running well into the early hours of 1 January 2026. The move aims to reduce road congestion and provide a safer alternative to late-night driving as Bengaluru prepares for large public celebrations.
Bengaluru late-night metro services for New Year travel
Services on the Purple, Green and Yellow lines will continue beyond normal hours, with last departures from terminals staggered between 1:30am and 3:10am depending on the route. According to BMRCL, the adjusted schedule is designed around expected passenger flows to keep stations manageable and avoid unsafe road travel after midnight.
On the Purple Line, the final train from Whitefield will depart at 1:45am and the last service from Challaghatta will leave at 2:00am. The Green Line will operate until 2:00am in both directions between Madavara and Silk Institute. The Yellow Line will run the longest service window in one direction, with the last train from RV Road to Bommasandra scheduled for 3:10am while services from Bommasandra towards RV Road will end at 1:30am.
Majestic station will act as the primary interchange through the night. BMRCL said the final connecting services towards all Purple and Green Line terminals will depart Majestic at 2:45am, allowing passengers to change corridors until that time.
To manage crowd movement, train frequency will be reduced from 11:30pm. Purple and Green Line trains will arrive approximately every eight minutes, while Yellow Line services will operate at 15-minute intervals until closing time. BMRCL urged passengers to plan journeys early and follow station announcements.
Central Bengaluru is expected to see heavy footfall and as a precaution MG Road Metro Station will be closed from 10:00pm on 31 December 2025. Trains will pass through without stopping. Commuters heading to the downtown area are advised to use Trinity or Cubbon Park stations instead.
Ticketing measures have been introduced to prevent long queues and keep station access steady. Paper token sales will be suspended after 11:00pm at Trinity and Cubbon Park. BMRCL is encouraging the use of QR tickets, return tickets purchased in advance and smart cards with sufficient balance to expedite entry and exit.
Officials said the combination of extended timings, controlled station access and digital ticketing will promote safe, orderly and efficient transport during New Year celebrations. Metro staff will be on duty to guide passengers and manage flow at key interchange points.
Commuters are advised to check official BMRCL updates for any last-minute changes, travel earlier where possible and cooperate with staff to avoid inconvenience. The extended services reflect an effort to balance public safety with mobility as Bengaluru welcomes the New Year.
