The Brazilian Deliberative Council of the Worker Assistance Fund (Codefat) approved the 2026 abono salarial payment calendar at the end of December, following a proposal from the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The scheme is expected to benefit around 26.9 million workers with total disbursements of approximately R$33.5 billion. Payments will begin on 15 February and continue through 15 August.

PIS/PASEP 2026 payment: key dates and how to check entitlement

Workers wishing to confirm their right to the abono salarial can start consultations from 5 February. Information on payment dates, amounts and designated banks will be available through the Digital Work Card application, the Emprega Brasil portal on gov.br, or by calling the Ministry of Labour and Employment helpline on 158.

The abono salarial is an annual benefit equivalent to one minimum wage for employees registered under the PIS (Social Integration Programme) or PASEP (Public Servant Asset Formation Programme). Eligibility requires at least 30 days’ paid work for an employer contributing to PIS/PASEP during the base year and a monthly salary below two minimum wages. For the 2026 payments, the reference year is 2024.

Codefat’s calendar aims to streamline distribution and reduce the number of unclaimed benefits. In 2025 the programme released R$30.7 billion to 26.3 million workers, achieving a coverage rate of 99.42%. Nevertheless, 154,180 benefits — amounting to R$161 million — remained unclaimed and will be available for up to five years, including for eligible dependants.

Those who missed withdrawing the 2025 payments had until 29 December to collect them. After that date, funds remain accessible for the statutory five-year period before lapsing.

Distribution is handled by CAIXA for PIS beneficiaries in the private sector and by Banco do Brasil for PASEP recipients in the public sector. CAIXA gives priority to crediting amounts to existing accounts (current, savings or digital accounts) and via the CAIXA Tem application, or to a social digital savings account opened automatically where applicable. Non-account holders can withdraw at agencies, lottery outlets, ATMs, Caixa Aqui points and other designated channels.

Banco do Brasil also credits beneficiaries’ accounts or uses transfers such as TED or PIX. Public servants without accounts or PIX arrangements must collect funds in person at Banco do Brasil branches.

For further assistance, beneficiaries should contact the Ministry of Labour and Employment, visit regional Superintendences of Labour, or call 158. These channels can clarify individual eligibility, payment dates and the correct withdrawal locations.

The 2026 abono salarial schedule provides a predictable timetable for millions of Brazilian workers who rely on the annual top-up. With clear digital and in-branch pathways for payment, authorities aim to maintain the high coverage achieved in previous years while reducing the volume of unclaimed benefits.

Key Takeaways:

  • PIS/PASEP 2026 payment begins 15 February and runs to 15 August, covering an estimated 26.9 million workers.
  • Consultations open 5 February via the Digital Work Card app, Emprega Brasil portal or phone 158.
  • Payments split between CAIXA (PIS) for private-sector workers and Banco do Brasil (PASEP) for public servants.
  • Estimated R$33.5 billion in disbursements; R$161 million remained unclaimed in 2025.
