Authorities in the state of Pará mobilised more than 700 public security agents to ensure a safe celebration as Belém welcomed 2026 at the Estádio Olímpico do Pará, Mangueirão. The event, part of the “Vira Pará” programme, combined a full cultural bill with an integrated safety operation that has been in force since 5 December.
Belém New Year security operation ensures public safety
The state Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defence (Segup) coordinated the operation, which included constant patrols, video monitoring and a visible security presence inside and outside the stadium car park. The programme featured performances by Joelma, Nattan, Gaby Amarantos, Natanzinho Lima and others, with the Carabao sound system closing the night.
Segup officials said the integrated approach was designed to allow residents to enjoy the free programme with confidence. Secretary Ualame Machado said the teams had worked intensively to provide both entertainment and safety, noting that the operation required detailed logistics and close cooperation among forces responsible for monitoring and inspection from the event perimeter to within the car park.
The operation emphasised speed of response and on-site capacity for incident handling. A Segup Mobile Centre was installed in the Mangueirão car park to act as a command post and police records office. The centre brought together representatives from the various security agencies to improve communication and shorten response times for any incidents reported by the public.
In addition, the stadium’s Delegacia do Torcedor e Grandes Eventos was active with civil police teams prepared to undertake any necessary procedures during the event. The presence of this dedicated unit aimed to streamline investigative and administrative work related to large-scale gatherings.
The operational framework also included a Central Command Operations room (Centro de Comando Operacional, CCO) that consolidated focal points from each security force. The CCO maintained real-time monitoring of cameras installed at the stadium and surrounding areas and coordinated with the Integrated Centre for Command and Control (CICC) if required. The Military Police and the Belém Municipal Guard provided overt patrols both inside and outside the venue.
Mobility and traffic management were priorities. The State Traffic Department (Detran) worked alongside the Road Police Battalion (BPRV) and Belém’s municipal security and mobility teams to guide traffic and keep access routes flowing. Officials said the joint effort sought to prioritise road safety and preserve circulation even as large crowds moved to and from the site.
Organisers highlighted the preventive nature of the operation. Continuous video surveillance, frequent patrols and an on-site command structure were presented as measures to deter trouble and provide rapid assistance, including medical rescue and other urgent services. The combined presence of agencies and the logistical staging of resources aimed to deliver a secure environment for families attending the festivities.
Local authorities described the event as a successful demonstration of multi-agency coordination, allowing residents to welcome the new year in a celebratory atmosphere with reinforced public safety measures in place.
