Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa has appealed to the people of Edo State and citizens across Nigeria to enter 2026 with renewed unity, hope and a shared sense of responsibility. In a New Year message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, Idahosa reflected on a challenging 2025 and urged collective action to build a fairer, more prosperous state.
Idahosa said last year tested the resilience and determination of Edo people but added that they remained steadfast in the face of economic, security and social difficulties. He praised the patience and optimism shown by residents and described their conduct as a testament to the state’s commitment to democratic values and progress.
Idahosa calls for unity 2026
“As we welcome 2026, we do so with renewed determination and a clear sense of purpose,” Idahosa said. He framed the new year as an opportunity to deepen good governance, strengthen institutions, promote peace and security, and ensure inclusive development across Edo State.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the administration’s focus under Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo on people-oriented policies. He highlighted priorities including job creation, infrastructure development, and improvements in education and healthcare, and reiterated a pledge to sustain transparency, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
Idahosa singled out young people as central to the state’s future, urging them to remain innovative, disciplined and patriotic. He also paid tribute to elders for their guidance and commended workers, farmers, traders, professionals and entrepreneurs for their sacrifices and contributions to Edo’s growth.
The message extended beyond state lines. Idahosa appealed to Nigerians to strengthen national unity, reject division and work together to build a peaceful, prosperous and just country. He said that Nigeria’s diversity remains its greatest strength and called on citizens to choose hope over fear, unity over division and service over self-interest.
Idahosa expressed confidence that collective effort would deliver on the aspirations of Edo citizens and Nigerians more broadly. He underlined that effective governance requires collaboration between government, communities and private sectors, and reiterated the administration’s commitment to implementing policies that reflect public needs.
As part of practical measures, he pointed to ongoing and planned projects aimed at creating employment opportunities and upgrading infrastructure across the state. He also emphasised the need for better educational and healthcare services to ensure long-term social and economic benefits for residents.
Concluding his message, the deputy governor wished Edo residents and the entire nation a happy and prosperous New Year filled with good health, peace and progress. He offered prayers for the safety and well-being of Edo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and invited all stakeholders to join in a renewed effort to deliver measurable results in 2026.
