A 45-year-old electrician died after a road crash on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Taramatipet in the early hours of Thursday, police said. The fatality occurred when the car he was travelling in rammed into another vehicle while returning to his village from Hyderabad.
The deceased was identified as Chinnam Venkatesham of Edullagudem village in Valigonda mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. His wife, Chinnam Padma, 38, a farmer, lodged a complaint with the Abdullapurmet police following the accident.
According to an officer from the Abdullapurmet police station, Venkatesham was travelling with four others in a car bearing registration number TS-30-L-7273. The group had driven from their village to Hyderabad for work on Wednesday night and were returning by the ORR from Moinabad after finishing their job.
ORR Taramatipet accident details
The police officer said the vehicle, driven by Guduru Sampath Reddy, was passing through the Taramatipet stretch at about 2.15am when it attempted to overtake an unknown vehicle. The car struck the vehicle from behind. Officers described the manner of driving as rash and negligent.
Venkatesham, who was seated in the rear, sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene as a result of heavy bleeding. The other occupants, identified as Guniganti Naresh, Lingaswamy and Kontham Srinu, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a private hospital in Hayath Nagar for treatment and observation.
Police have registered a case and said further investigation is under way to establish the precise circumstances leading to the collision. Preliminary inquiries will examine whether excessive speed, driver error, road conditions or the actions of the other vehicle contributed to the crash.
Local highway authorities and traffic police often warn motorists against dangerous manoeuvres on the ORR, which carries substantial commuter traffic at night. Overtaking on stretches with limited visibility and at high speed remains a recurrent cause of serious collisions in and around Hyderabad.
Family members and villagers have been informed and are expected to visit the hospital and the police station in the coming hours. The Abdullapurmet police said they will also seek witness statements and any available CCTV or dashcam footage from the Taramatipet stretch to aid the investigation.
Road safety officials reiterated the need for caution on orbital and high-speed roads, urging drivers to avoid risky overtaking, to use headlights correctly and to ensure passengers wear seat belts. The case file will determine whether charges for rash and negligent driving will be brought against the driver once investigations conclude.
