Amritsar lawmaker Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar met with traders from the Dhaba Vasti Ram area and pledged swift action to resolve their grievances. The meeting was convened by the local trade wing to discuss persistent problems affecting business operations, basic amenities and community welfare.

Inderbir Nijjar addresses traders’ issues

Speaking at the event, Dr Nijjar listened attentively as members of the Dhaba Vasti Ram traders’ association set out their concerns. Key issues raised included shortages of basic infrastructure, difficulties in carrying out daily trade, and a range of public interest matters that adversely affect livelihoods.

Dr Nijjar assured attendees that their complaints would not be ignored. He said he would take up each point with the appropriate government departments and follow up until practical solutions were in place. “We will coordinate with the relevant authorities and ensure concrete steps are taken to address these problems promptly,” he told the assembled traders and local leaders.

The meeting provided a platform for local business owners to present detailed accounts of the challenges they face. Problems cited included inadequate sanitation and water supply, poor road access, and regulatory obstacles that complicate small-scale trading. Traders also sought clearer communication from municipal agencies and faster redressal of service disruptions.

Local leaders present at the programme included Manpreet Singh, Navneet Sharma and Vanit Aneja, the coordinator who organised the event. Office-bearers from the association such as Ravi Kumar (Vice President), Surjit Singh (Chairman), Surinder Singh (Vice Chairman), Romildeep Singh (Secretary) and Gurpreet Singh Chahat joined other community representatives to press their case.

Attendees welcomed Nijjar’s commitment, saying that an engaged legislator could help bridge the gap between local needs and departmental action. Traders expressed cautious optimism that co-ordinated intervention would improve facilities and make it easier to sustain and grow small businesses in the area.

Dr Nijjar emphasised a hands-on approach, promising regular follow-up and on-site inspections where necessary. He urged the association to document issues clearly so that officials could take targeted measures, and he undertook to convene meetings with municipal and departmental officers to expedite work.

Local observers noted that such interactions can yield quick wins when elected representatives actively pursue practical solutions. For traders dependent on daily commerce, improvements to basic amenities and streamlined administrative processes can have an immediate impact on incomes and local economic activity.

The gathering concluded with a commitment from both the association and Dr Nijjar to maintain dialogue. Traders said they would share a priority list of problems, and Nijjar promised to provide regular updates on progress. Many in the group voiced hope that this engagement would translate into tangible improvements in the weeks ahead.

As the region prepares for further development initiatives, local stakeholders are watching to see whether the promised steps lead to faster delivery of services and relief for small businesses.

  • Inderbir Nijjar addresses traders’ issues during a meeting at Dhaba Vasti Ram, pledging rapid resolution.
