The Hindu Group released its annual compendium, The Hindu Year Book 2026, in Chennai on Wednesday, offering a comprehensive reference to the events that shaped 2025. The Special Publications division of The Hindu Group prepared the volume, which combines chronological reporting with contextual articles and select year-end overviews written specifically for the book.

Several senior figures from The Hindu Group were present, including Nirmala Lakshman, Chairperson of The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited; N. Ram and N. Ravi, directors of THGPPL and Kasturi and Sons Limited respectively; K. Venugopal, Chairman of Kasturi and Sons Limited; Rohit Ramesh, director of THGPPL; and Suresh Nambath, Editor of The Hindu.

Mr Udhayachandran said The Hindu remained inseparable from the lives of many in Tamil Nadu, recalling his long habit of noticing the newspaper’s layout changes and offering comments. He encouraged aspirants preparing for the civil services to read the newspaper’s editorials to gain a measured understanding of public issues. “A bureaucrat should not hold extreme views and should remain balanced. That is what The Hindu does,” he said.
The volume draws on regular news reports and special features published during the year, together with essays commissioned to provide perspective on significant developments. The editors said the book was designed to be useful both for casual readers who wish to recall the year’s major events and for students preparing for competitive examinations who require concise, reliable background material.
During his remarks, Mr Udhayachandran also reflected on his work in designing school curricula and textbooks, noting that Frontline, a sister publication of The Hindu, offered a model in the use of striking photography to convey information quickly and effectively. He said well-composed images often capture attention immediately and prepare readers to engage with the accompanying text.
The Hindu Year Book 2026 is priced at ₹499, with a special launch offer of ₹399 available for a limited period. Copies can be purchased through The Hindu’s online bookstore or by scanning the QR code provided with the publication. The editors emphasised that the book aims to balance factual reporting with contextual analysis to help readers understand not only what happened during 2025 but why it mattered.
The annual publication sits alongside The Hindu’s daily coverage and the group’s other titles, continuing a tradition of year-end reflection and consolidated reporting. With contributions drawn from the newspaper’s archive and original pieces prepared for the volume, the book seeks to serve as a compact, authoritative guide to the year that was.
