The Karnataka government has extended the procurement window under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) programme for several rabi-season pulses and oilseeds, offering farmers additional time to sell green gram (mung), black gram (urad), sunflower and soybean at government-notified support prices.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, who holds the district charge for Kalaburagi, announced the extension in a press statement on 1 January 2026. The announcement follows government orders issued in December 2025 that initially fixed purchase deadlines in September 2025 for FAQ-grade rabi produce under the 2025–26 MSP scheme.
Under the latest directive issued on 5 December 2025, the state has removed the previously set cap on the maximum quantity of produce that procurement agencies could purchase from individual farmers. Purchases will now be guided by farmer crop details recorded in the FRUITS software and apportioned according to cultivated area, enabling more flexible and demand-responsive procurement.
India MSP extension and revised purchase deadlines
The revised closing dates and the notified support prices for the crops are as follows:
- Green gram (mung): Rs 8,768 — new closing date 22 January 2026.
- Black gram (urad): Rs 7,800 — new closing date 22 January 2026.
- Sunflower: Rs 7,721 — new closing date 22 January 2026.
- Soybean: Rs 5,328 — new closing date 26 January 2026.
The minister stressed that farmers who had already registered to sell FAQ-grade rabi produce will automatically have their procurement window extended in line with the government order of 31 December 2025. The move is intended to ensure registered growers have sufficient time to bring their produce to market and benefit from MSP support.
Procurement agencies have been instructed to refer to the FRUITS (Farmer Registration and Unified Trade System) database when scheduling purchases. The system holds farmer crop and acreage details, and the state has directed procurement centres to use that information to determine the volume they will purchase from each farmer.
Minister Kharge urged district farmers to take advantage of the extended timelines. He advised growers to approach their local Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) or Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to deliver produce within the newly prescribed dates and to ensure they receive the notified MSPs.
Local officials said the extension aims to reduce the pressure on farmers facing logistical or weather-related delays during the rabi marketing season. By removing the upper limit on purchases and aligning procurement with FRUITS registry data, the state expects smoother operations at procurement centres and better price realisation for cultivators.
The extension will be especially relevant for smallholders who may require more time to aggregate and transport their crops to the nearest purchase centre. Farmers are advised to confirm registration status and delivery schedules with their PACS or FPO ahead of the closing dates.

Officials will monitor procurement flows and provide updates if further adjustments are required. For now, the government’s step is intended to strengthen farmer access to MSP mechanisms and support rural incomes during the rabi marketing season.
