State electricity authorities have announced planned monthly maintenance that will cause power interruptions across parts of Tirunelveli district on Saturday 3 January 2026. Officials said the outages are preventive and aimed at ensuring safe and reliable supply in the weeks ahead.
Tirunelveli power outage schedule and affected areas
The Tirunelveli urban distribution division, represented by engineer Murugan, said maintenance work at the Kokkirakulam substation will lead to a temporary suspension of supply from 09:00 to 14:00. Areas affected include Tirunelveli junction, Kokkirakulam, Meenakshipuram, the northern and southern bypass roads, Vannarappettai in full, Ilankonagar, Parani Nagar and the stretch of Tiruvananthapuram Road from Tirunelveli junction to Mary Sergeant School. Several residential streets such as Palai Puthupettai, Subramaniapuram and Marudhinagar will also be impacted.
Valliyur division engineer Valan Arasu confirmed that planned maintenance at the Panakudi substation will also be carried out on Saturday. Supply will be suspended between 09:00 and 14:00 in Panakudi town and surrounding habitations including Leppaikudi Irupu, Pushpavanam, Kumandhan, Kaval Kinru, Sivakamipuram, Thalavaipuram, Pambankulam, Kalanthapanai and Kadampankulam.
Kallidaikurichi division engineer Sudalaiyaadum Perumal advised that maintenance at several substations in the Kallidaikurichi circuit, including O. Thulukapatti, Veeravanallur, Ambasamudram, Manimutharu and Kadayam, will require longer interruptions. In those locations power will be suspended from 09:00 until 17:00. The shutdown will affect a broad set of villages and localities such as Azhvantulukapatti, O. Thulukapatti, Sengulam, Pappakudi, Kabaliparai, Idaikal, Anaindhanadarpatti, Thazhaiyuthu, Panaiyangkurichi, Naalankattalai and many others across the division.
Officials emphasised that these outages are part of routine monthly maintenance designed to inspect equipment, replace worn components and complete safety checks. Such work reduces the risk of unplanned failures and helps maintain supply quality over the long term.
Residents and businesses are advised to take precautions. Essential services should confirm backup arrangements for medical equipment, refrigeration and communications. Households can plan cooking and other energy-intensive tasks outside the outage window. Local commercial establishments reliant on continuous power should consider temporary generators or rescheduling critical operations.
Authorities asked the public to avoid approaching maintenance crews and to report any unsafe conditions. Consumers seeking further information or updates can contact their local electricity division office or visit the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation website and helpline. Motorists were reminded that traffic signals may be affected in some locations during the outage periods and to exercise caution at intersections.
Distribution engineers said they will strive to complete the work within the scheduled window and restore supply as soon as safety checks are complete. They thanked residents for their patience and cooperation while the maintenance is carried out.
