Commercial liquefied petroleum gas prices increased sharply at the start of the year, with businesses in several major Indian cities facing an immediate rise of ₹111 per 19 kg cylinder from 1 January 2026, according to Indian Oil data. Household cylinder rates remained largely unchanged.
India LPG price update
The move affects commercial users from Delhi to Patna and marks a reversal in the downward trend seen for most of 2025. Indian Oil listed the new commercial 19 kg cylinder price in Delhi at ₹1,691.50, up from ₹1,580.50. Kolkata and Mumbai also recorded a ₹111 increase, with Kolkata now at ₹1,795 and Mumbai at ₹1,642.50. Chennai’s commercial cylinder rate rose to ₹1,849.50.
City by city changes
Commercial cylinders saw a uniform increase of ₹111 in many urban centres. The company’s published figures show:
- Delhi commercial 19 kg cylinder now ₹1,691.50, previously ₹1,580.50.
- Kolkata commercial 19 kg cylinder now ₹1,795, previously ₹1,684.
- Mumbai commercial 19 kg cylinder now ₹1,642.50, previously ₹1,531.50.
- Chennai commercial 19 kg cylinder now ₹1,849.50.
In contrast, household LPG cylinders, typically the 14.2 kg size, showed no fresh centralised increase on the same day. Indian Oil’s regional pricing lists place the 14.2 kg domestic cylinder at ₹853 in Delhi, ₹852.50 in Mumbai and ₹890.50 in Lucknow. Prices vary more sharply in remote or conflict-affected areas, with Kargil at ₹985.50 and Pulwama at ₹969.
Price trends through 2025
The commercial price rise comes after a year in which commercial cylinders were generally cheaper. Over the 12 months to December 2025, prices in major metro markets fell on average by about ₹238 per 19 kg cylinder. Indian Oil’s monthly adjustments show ten reductions during 2025, with the largest falls recorded in July, September and April. Small increases occurred in March and October.
Household consumers experienced relatively modest movement during 2025. Over the year domestic cylinders moved less frequently and saw a net increase of approximately ₹50 at one point, but the start of 2026 did not bring further centralised increases for most household users.
The January change will primarily affect restaurants, hotels and other commercial consumers who buy 19 kg cylinders. For those businesses the sudden ₹111 rise per cylinder will raise operating costs immediately, while household users should see little or no difference in their refill bills at present.
Indian Oil’s published regional prices remain the authoritative reference for consumers and businesses. Local dealers may add transport or handling charges that vary by location. Authorities and market observers will watch whether further adjustments follow in the weeks ahead as international energy markets and domestic supply factors evolve.
