Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan has urged India’s youth to channel their energy and cultural values towards the nation’s long-term development, identifying them as central to achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. In his New Year message for 2026, he highlighted recent national achievements and set out five pledges he wants young Indians to adopt.
Viksit Bharat 2047
Radhakrishnan hailed Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s 2025 mission to the International Space Station as a landmark in India’s human spaceflight ambitions. He also pointed to the success of ISRO’s SPADEX mission, which demonstrated satellite docking, and the LVM 3-M6 launch, which showcased India’s expanding heavy-lift capacity. These developments, he said, strengthen India’s position as a global technology and innovation hub and serve as inspiration for a generation that will lead the nation forward.
“I call upon the youth of India, the custodians of the nation’s future, to take five pledges for Bharat Mata on this New Year,” Radhakrishnan said. The pledges are: remain completely free from drugs; adopt technology responsibly and ethically for inclusive development; focus on physical and mental health by embracing an active lifestyle; uphold constitutional values, integrity and social harmony; and contribute selflessly to national progress.
Beyond space and technology, the Vice President reflected on a year of legislative activity and national remembrance. He said Parliament enacted historic legislation during 2025 as part of the determined march towards Viksit Bharat, while the nation marked several centenaries and anniversaries that paid tribute to leaders and martyrs who shaped modern India.
Radhakrishnan noted national observances including the 350th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom, the 150th anniversaries of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Vallabhbhai Patel, the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and the 100th birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He described these commemorations as moments for collective reflection on the values that underpin India’s progress.
The Vice President also highlighted security efforts, referencing Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of the state’s resolve to protect citizens and the nation’s sovereignty. On the sporting front, he recalled a year of notable successes, including the men’s cricket team lifting the ICC Champions Trophy, the Indian women’s team winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup for the first time, and India winning both titles at the Kho Kho World Cup.
Radhakrishnan will travel to Tamil Nadu for a two-day visit that includes presiding over the 34th convocation of Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute University in Chennai, attending the Ram Nath Goenka Sahitya Samman ceremony and participating in a public reception at Kalaivanar Arangam. He will also attend the 50th Golden Jubilee Jayanthi Celebrations of Sri Sakthi Amma at Vellore Golden Temple and the 9th Siddha Day celebrations in Triplicane.
Concluding his address, the Vice President reiterated his appeal to young Indians to adopt the pledges and to use innovation, ethical technology and civic responsibility as tools in building a prosperous, inclusive nation by 2047.
