Indonesia Astra Infra toll traffic hits 250,000 on New Year’s Eve

Astra Infra reported that 250,327 vehicles passed through three of its toll roads on 31 December 2025, the day before New Year 2026. The company said the high volumes concentrated on the Tangerang–Merak, Cikopo–Palimanan and Jombang–Mojokerto stretches as holiday travel peaked.

Astra Infra toll traffic highlights surge on key corridors

Tangerang–Merak recorded approximately 143,000 vehicles on the day, a figure roughly 11% below normal daily traffic but about 3% higher than during the previous year’s holiday period. Cikopo–Palimanan experienced a marked increase, with 70,900 vehicles travelling the route, 29.17% above typical daily flows and nearly 9.7% higher than last year’s New Year period. In East Java, Jombang–Mojokerto saw around 35,000 vehicles, an increase of about 38% over regular daily traffic and 8.9% year‑on‑year.

Company officials said the mixed pattern reflected both regional travel behaviour and seasonal travel patterns as families and tourists moved ahead of the holiday. Higher volumes on Cikopo–Palimanan and Jombang–Mojokerto contrasted with a modest dip on Tangerang–Merak compared with a normal day, though the latter still exceeded last year’s holiday levels.

Astra Infra emphasised that the company was preparing facilities and staff to maintain safety and flow during the period. Roadside teams monitored traffic and rest areas, and additional crew were deployed to assist drivers and manage congestion at busy points.

To reduce pressure on main rest areas, Astra Infra urged road users to make use of alternative rest stops located near toll exits. The company reminded motorists that the toll network operates a closed transaction system on these routes. Users tap an electronic card on entry to record their point of origin and tap again at exit to pay for the distance travelled, allowing drivers to re‑enter without extra toll charges once their journey continues on the same trip.

Group Chief Technical Officer Rinaldi said that the closed system facilitates smoother transactions and helps manage traffic at toll plazas during peak periods. He encouraged travellers to plan stops in advance and to remain patient while staff managed higher than usual flows.

Transport analysts noted that holiday spikes are typical but that year‑on‑year increases on specific corridors could reflect shifts in travel destinations, improved road access or broader patterns of domestic mobility. For operators, such trends offer insights for capacity planning and the scheduling of maintenance or service upgrades outside peak windows.

Astra Infra’s management reiterated safety as the priority, urging all drivers to adhere to speed limits, take regular breaks and use authorised rest facilities. Authorities and toll operators will continue to monitor conditions as New Year travel subsides and normal traffic patterns resume.

Key Takeaways:

  • Astra Infra toll traffic reached 250,327 vehicles across three toll roads on 31 December 2025.
  • Tangerang–Merak saw 143,000 vehicles, Cikopo–Palimanan recorded 70,900 and Jombang–Mojokerto about 35,000.
  • Volumes rose year‑on‑year on two routes while Cikopo–Palimanan and Jombang–Mojokerto reported large increases over normal daily traffic.
  • Astra Infra urged road users to use alternative rest areas and explained the closed toll transaction system to ease journeys.
