Kanthapuram A.P. Abubacker Musliyar, president of the Kerala Muslim Jamaath, will arrive in Kannur on 2 January as part of a statewide Kerala tour aimed at promoting communal harmony and public engagement. The tour, organised as part of the Samastha Kerala Jemiyyathul Ulema centenary, carries the theme ‘With the People’ and is intended to stress inclusivity and social cohesion.
Organisers said the delegation will be welcomed in Payyannur at 9:00am before continuing towards Kannur. A procession is scheduled to begin from Prabhat Junction in Kannur at 4:00pm, during which a specially prepared centenary guard will take part. Later in the evening a public reception will be held at the collectorate ground at 5:00pm.
The reception will be chaired by Pattuvam K.P. Abubacker Musliyar. Minister Ramachandran Kadannappalli will formally inaugurate the event, and Kanthapuram will deliver the main address. Deputy speakers Sayyid Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari and Perood Abdulrahiman Sakhafi are among those listed to present their remarks.
The programme will also feature interventions from political and community leaders. K. Sudhakaran MP, CPI(M) district secretary K.K. Ragesh, Muslim League district president Abdul Kareem Cheleri and I.N.L. state general secretary Qasim Irikkur are expected to speak. The presence of a broad cross-section of leaders underlines the organisers’ aim to reach out across communal and political lines.
Kanthapuram Kerala tour aims to promote inclusivity
Organisers said the centenary tour is intended to amplify a message of solidarity at a time when bridging divisions is particularly important. The ‘With the People’ theme, they explained, seeks not only to deliver words but to encourage practical steps that bring communities together without discrimination.
At a press briefing ahead of the visit, Samastha district mushawara general secretary P.P. Abdul Haqim Saadi and Kerala tour district committee convener M.K. Hamid outlined logistics and the tour’s objectives. Other committee members attending the briefing included general secretary Hanief Panur and district officials such as Mohammed Sakhafi Chokli, Abdurasakh Maniyoor, S.Y.S Kannur district president Mohammed Rafeeq Amani and P.K. Abdurrahiman.
Speakers highlighted the centenary’s symbolic value for Samastha and described the tour as an opportunity to reaffirm commitments to social welfare, education and communal harmony across Kerala. They said local committees had been mobilised to receive participants and ensure the event proceeded peacefully and respectfully.
Security and public order arrangements will be coordinated with local authorities for the procession and the evening reception. The organisers emphasised the family-friendly nature of the events and encouraged broad public participation while asking attendees to observe instructions issued by organisers and officials.
As the centenary tour moves through Kerala, organisers say they will continue to underline practical initiatives alongside public addresses, seeking to translate the ‘With the People’ slogan into community outreach, dialogue and cooperative programmes at local level.
The Kannur stop is the first major public appearance for this phase of the centenary tour, and organisers hope it will set a constructive tone for subsequent events across the state.
