Key Takeaways:

  • Mogral youth coordinated traffic control to ease congestion during the Kerala School Kalolsavam.
  • More than 100 volunteers, led by local organisers and assisted by police, managed busy junctions and service roads.
  • Mogral youth traffic management ensured safe arrivals and departures for performers and visitors, working through heat and late hours.
  • The effort highlights strong community involvement in supporting the district cultural festival.

Mogral Volunteers Keep Festival Traffic Moving Through the Night

Dozens of young volunteers in Mogral took charge of traffic control around the Kerala School Kalolsavam, ensuring the safe and smooth arrival of contestants and visitors to the district cultural festival. The operation, organised by the event’s law and order committee, ran from early morning into the late hours as teams managed peak congestion at key junctions.

Mogral youth traffic management in action

Led by local chairman Naser Mogral and convenor Biju Puthilloth, a teacher at Mogral School, the committee coordinated more than 100 young volunteers to direct vehicles and manage queues along the busy Mogral junction and adjacent service roads. Volunteers worked closely with the police to regulate traffic flow and keep access routes clear for festival participants and emergency services.

Organisers said the busiest area was the junction near the service road, where long lines of vehicles arriving from both sides required constant management. Volunteers positioned themselves at key points to direct drivers, assist pedestrians and open temporary lanes where possible so buses and other large vehicles could pass without delay.

Despite scorching daytime temperatures and late-night duties, the volunteers maintained a steady rotation and showed no signs of complaint. Their responsibilities included guiding arrival routes for schools, coordinating drop-off points, and helping visitors find parking and pedestrian crossings. The combination of volunteer manpower and police support ensured the festival proceeded without major traffic-related incidents.

Community effort supports cultural festival

Festival organisers praised the commitment of Mogral’s youth, saying the volunteers played a crucial role in welcoming the district’s young performers and their families. The district Kalolsavam draws large crowds and multiple school contingents, and efficient traffic management was vital to the event’s logistics. Organisers credited the volunteers with helping to maintain the festival schedule and safeguarding participants’ journeys to and from venues.

Volunteers reported a sense of pride in contributing to the festival. Many said they were motivated by a wish to support their community and ensure that visiting performers were received with respect and order. The collaborative approach — combining local knowledge, volunteer energy and police coordination — reduced delays and minimised the risk of accidents on crowded roads.

Local officials encouraged other communities hosting large events to consider similar volunteer-led traffic management models. By training volunteers to handle basic traffic duties and by working in tandem with law enforcement, organisers can improve safety and maintain steady movement during peak periods without overburdening police resources.

As the Kalolsavam continues, Mogral’s volunteers remain on duty, managing flows and assisting visitors. Their round-the-clock commitment during heat and heavy traffic underscores a broader community spirit that supports Kerala’s long-standing tradition of school cultural festivals.
