The Government College of Nursing at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) conducted a walk-in admission on 31 December to fill vacant seats for its BSc (Nursing) and MSc (Nursing) courses for the 2025-26 academic year. The exercise addressed unfilled vacancies after the third round of allotment carried out by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

Mysuru nursing admissions process and eligibility

The walk-in covered 81 seats for the BSc (Nursing) programme and 19 seats for the MSc (Nursing) programme. Candidates who had registered with KEA were considered on the basis of merit. The admission drive was held following directions from the Directorate of Medical Education, Bengaluru, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi to ensure that seats left vacant after standard allotment rounds did not remain unfilled.

Prospective students were required to present their KEA registration details and supporting documents at the time of the walk-in. Admission officials verified academic records and eligibility criteria before allotting seats on merit. The college coordinated closely with state and university authorities to follow prescribed procedures and timelines for finalising admissions for the new academic session.

Officials stated that the walk-in was a remedial measure to complete the intake for both undergraduate and postgraduate nursing courses. Such measures occur when candidates decline allotted seats or fail to complete required formalities during earlier rounds. By opening the remaining seats to eligible KEA-registered candidates, the college aimed to maintain full enrolment and prevent wastage of training capacity.

Filling these seats has practical implications beyond campus numbers. Nursing education forms a key pipeline for the healthcare system, and full cohorts are essential to sustain clinical services and staffing at hospitals and community health centres. Ensuring that BSc and MSc nursing programmes run at capacity supports workforce planning and helps meet local and regional demand for trained nurses.

The walk-in admission also offered an additional opportunity for candidates who missed earlier allotment rounds or who were reassessed as eligible after reviewing documentation. Merit-based selection through KEA registration preserved transparency and fairness in the allocation of remaining seats.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and the Directorate of Medical Education set out the framework for such admissions to preserve academic standards while reacting to the practical need to fill vacant places. The Indian Nursing Council’s involvement affirmed that the process complied with national norms for nursing education and recognition of qualifications.

With the walk-in completed, the college expects to finalise its student lists and proceed with orientation and academic planning for the 2025-26 session. For candidates who secured seats, the coming weeks will focus on completing formal admission formalities and preparing for coursework and clinical rotations.

For the wider health sector, completing the admissions cycle helps ensure a steady flow of newly qualified nurses into training pipelines and future employment. Local authorities and educational institutions continue to monitor intake figures to align training capacity with workforce needs.

Key Takeaways:

  • Mysuru nursing admissions held on 31 December to fill 81 BSc and 19 MSc seats for the 2025-26 academic year.
  • Selection was made on the basis of KEA merit for candidates registered with the Karnataka Examination Authority.
  • The walk-in followed directives from the Directorate of Medical Education, RGUHS and the Indian Nursing Council to occupy seats left vacant after KEA’s third round.
  • Authorities aim to ensure full intake and strengthen the local nursing workforce by completing admissions through merit-based walk-ins.
