The Kebbi State Government has ordered all primary and secondary schools to reopen across the state for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session, with the directive taking effect on Monday 5 January 2026.
The move was announced in statements signed by Isah Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and Aliyu Bagarawa, Deputy Director (Academics) at the Kebbi State Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education. Authorities asked school administrators, teachers, parents, students and education secretaries to note the resumption date and ensure strict compliance.
Kebbi State schools reopening and resumption schedule
School heads were instructed to make adequate preparations to guarantee a smooth return to academic activities. The government said the first week following resumption would be dedicated to conducting first-term examinations. Normal academic activities and classes are scheduled to begin on Monday 12 January 2026.
Zonal education officers, principals, head teachers and proprietors of private schools were informed of the timetable and examination schedule, which must be adhered to as approved by the state government. The statements emphasised the need for orderly resumption and clear planning at all levels of the education sector.
Parents and guardians were advised to ensure that pupils and students return promptly to school. School leaders were reminded to put in place measures to facilitate learning and to maintain discipline during the initial examination week and the weeks that follow.
The directive comes after a period of closure necessitated by a violent incident at the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga. In November 2025, bandits abducted 25 schoolgirls and killed the vice-principal during the attack, prompting widespread concern about security in the state. Following the incident, Governor Nasir Idris condemned the attack and demanded that the military identify who ordered the withdrawal of troops from the school prior to the abduction.
State officials said the reopening decision reflects a balance between restoring normal educational routines and maintaining vigilance over security. The government has called on security agencies to remain engaged while it implements measures to protect schools and learners.
Education officials urged school administrators to update parents on safety measures and to coordinate with local authorities. The statements underscored that the resumption timetable and the examination schedule are official and must be followed to ensure that the academic calendar remains on track.
As pupils and students prepare to return, the state government said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with security partners to protect learning environments. The reopening is intended to allow learners to complete the academic year while steps are taken to strengthen safety and reassure communities affected by the Maga attack.
