A high-speed road accident in Noida early on Thursday morning left one person dead and two others injured after a new Maruti Brezza lost control and struck a central divider, police said.
Noida car crash details and immediate response
The collision occurred near Sector-51, close to Hoshiarpur village lane number 1, in the jurisdiction of Sector-49 police. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle appeared to be travelling at around 100 kilometres per hour before it became uncontrollable and hit the divider with such force that parts of the car scattered across the road.
Officers who reached the scene extricated the occupants from the wreckage and rushed them to a nearby hospital. Twenty-year-old Rohit, a resident of Nivana Badli, Jhajjar in Haryana, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. His companion, 22-year-old Sanju of Pelpa Badli, Jhajjar, remains in critical condition and continues to receive care.
Thana in-charge of Sector-49 said the Brezza involved in the crash was new and did not yet have a number plate fitted. The police completed the requisite documentation and sent Rohit’s body for post-mortem. Authorities have informed the family and are carrying out further procedures as required by law.
Investigation and public safety concerns
Police said they have opened an inquiry into the cause of the collision and are examining whether speed, driver error, vehicle condition or road factors contributed to the crash. The investigation will also consider why a new vehicle was being driven without registration plates, which may be relevant to the ongoing probe.
Local residents expressed concern over the frequency of high-speed incidents in the area. Several witnesses urged authorities to step up traffic enforcement and consider additional safety measures on stretches where drivers often exceed limits. Road safety experts say that maintaining speed limits, ensuring vehicle compliance and improving awareness can significantly reduce such fatalities.
The Sector-49 police station is handling the case and will take legal action as necessary once the investigation yields more information. Meanwhile, the community continues to mourn the loss of Rohit, and updates on Sanju’s condition will be provided as they become available.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges with road safety in fast-growing urban fringes. Police and civic agencies may need to work together to address infrastructure, enforcement and public education to prevent similar tragedies in future.
