Ras Al Khaimah ushered in 2026 with a 15‑minute New Year spectacle that combined advanced drone choreography and a coastline fireworks display to set a new Guinness World Record.

Ras Al Khaimah New Year drone record dazzles waterfront

The centrepiece of the celebration was a large‑scale drone performance in which multirotor craft formed a giant phoenix above the emirate’s waterfront. The formation used 2,300 drones in total, including 1,000 specialised pyro drones that produced a flame‑like illumination across the phoenix’s wings, creating the impression of a creature rising and taking flight.

Organisers described the phoenix as a symbol of renewal and rebirth, while a second major sequence titled “The Welcome” depicted a human figure rising from the sea with open arms, intended to convey Ras Al Khaimah’s spirit of hospitality and openness to visitors.

As midnight approached, the drone choreography gave way to a precisely timed fireworks countdown. The pyrotechnic display ran for six kilometres along the coastline from Marjan Island to Al Hamra, with hundreds of fireworks launched in synchronised waves that lit up the shoreline in coordinated bursts of colour and sound.

Thousands of residents and visitors gathered across beachfront resorts and at the New Year’s Eve Festival to witness the show, which also included live stage performances and family entertainment. Earlier in the evening, an additional fireworks display was held at Corniche Al Qawasim to provide family‑friendly viewing options.

Phillipa Harrison, chief executive officer of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, said the event was designed to unite the community and mark a year of progress for the emirate. “New Year’s Eve in Ras Al Khaimah is about bringing people together. With this year’s show, we wanted to create a celebration that could be shared by our entire community and everyone visiting Ras Al Khaimah at this special time,” she said.

Technical teams coordinated the drone formations and pyrotechnics to meet the strict requirements of a Guinness World Record attempt. The use of pyro drones — drones equipped with controlled pyrotechnic payloads — delivered dynamic lighting effects while maintaining safety buffers and timing precision.

Local authorities emphasised the event’s role in promoting tourism and showcasing the emirate’s capacity to host large‑scale public spectacles. The combination of cutting‑edge drone technology, choreographed fireworks and live entertainment aimed to reinforce Ras Al Khaimah’s appeal as a destination for visitors seeking unique experiences.

Organisers said the record and the wider New Year’s programme offered a moment for residents and guests to reflect on recent development and to greet 2026 with optimism. The event also highlighted the growing use of drone displays in public celebrations across the region, where operators are increasingly blending technology and storytelling to create memorable public events.

Authorities confirmed that official verification of the Guinness World Record was under way following the display. Meanwhile, feedback from attendees pointed to high levels of satisfaction with the spectacle and the overall organisation of the festivities.
