State electricity authorities have announced scheduled monthly maintenance that will lead to temporary power interruptions across extensive parts of Tenkasi district on Saturday, 3 January 2026. The power utility says the outages are necessary for routine upkeep of distribution infrastructure and will affect several subdivisions at staggered times during the day.
Tenkasi power outage schedule and affected areas
The Tenkasi distribution division has scheduled maintenance at the Tenkasi, Chengottai, Surandai and Sappavarvadakarai substations. Power will be suspended from 09:00 to 14:00 in Tenkasi town and more than 40 surrounding villages, including Melakaram, Nannagaram, Kudiruppu, Kruttalam, Kasimejarpuram, Ilanchi, Ayyapuram and Ilathur. The utility’s notice names additional localities such as Ayirapperi, Pattapattu, Mathalampaarai, Thiraviyanagar, Ramachandrapattinam and several vallai (valasai) hamlets.
In the rural division overseen by the Tirunelveli rural superintendent engineer, monthly maintenance at Uthumalai, Alangulam and Keelapavur substations will also interrupt supply between 09:00 and 14:00. Villages affected in this block include Uthumalai, Keelakkalankal, Kurinjankulam, Melamarudhapuram, Solaiseri, Karuvandha and Amuthapuram, among others.
Further south, the Kadayannallur division has scheduled works at Puliyangkudi and Veerasigamani substations. Between 09:00 and 14:00 these outages will impact Puliyangkudi, Sindhamani, Ayyapuram, Rajagopalperri, Rathinapuri, Indira Nagar and a string of nearby settlements including Thiruvettanallur and Mela Puliyangkudi.
Sankarankovil town and the Perumalpatti substation will undergo longer maintenance from 09:00 until 17:00. The extended window is expected to affect Sankarankovil urban areas and a broad set of surrounding villages such as Puliyampatti, Vathikottai, Periyur, Manaloor, Perumpathur and Ramalingapuram. The distribution office has named many smaller habitations that should prepare for a full working day without mains supply.
Officials say the maintenance work is part of the electricity board’s monthly schedule intended to ensure reliability and safety of the distribution network. They urged residents to switch off sensitive appliances, make emergency arrangements for medical equipment if required, and conserve stored power while supply is interrupted.
Local residents can expect restoration once checks and repairs are complete, but the utility warned that times are approximate and may change if additional work or unforeseen faults arise. Consumers are advised to follow official municipal and electricity division announcements for real-time updates and contact emergency helplines if there are electricity-related hazards during the outage.
By planning ahead and following safety guidance from the electricity board, households and businesses can reduce inconvenience while engineers carry out essential maintenance to strengthen the distribution network for the months ahead.
