The Dubai Maritime Authority has announced a comprehensive plan to manage maritime traffic during the upcoming New Year celebrations, aiming to ensure public safety, smooth vessel movements and uninterrupted festivities along the UAE coastline. The announcement coincides with messages of optimism from senior UAE officials as the country prepares to welcome the new year.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler in the Al Dhafra Region, conveyed renewed optimism for the year ahead, saying the nation bids farewell to the old year and embraces the new one with fresh determination and greater ambitions. His message underlines the broader spirit of preparedness and civic coordination that authorities are promoting ahead of nationwide celebrations.

Dubai maritime traffic plan key measures and timings

According to the Dubai Maritime Authority, the plan emphasises clearly marked navigation corridors, temporary speed restrictions in crowded areas and enhanced patrol presence during peak celebration hours. Authorities will designate specific zones for spectator vessels and recreational craft, while commercial and transit traffic will be redirected to alternative routes where necessary to reduce congestion.

Officials said safety inspections and briefings will be intensified in the days leading up to the celebrations, and emergency response teams will remain on standby. Maritime enforcement units will work closely with port operators and coastal police to monitor vessel compliance, issue advisories and provide assistance where required.

Public guidance will be published on official channels outlining prohibited behaviours, vessel capacity limits and recommended arrival and departure windows for those attending maritime events. The authority also called on vessel operators to ensure their craft meet safety standards and carry the necessary life-saving equipment.

Coordination across the UAE to protect residents and visitors

While the announcement was made by the Dubai Maritime Authority, the statement from Sheikh Hamdan reflects a national approach to holiday safety. Federal and emirate-level agencies are coordinating to align maritime measures with onshore crowd management, transport services and emergency medical coverage.

Authorities stressed that the measures are precautionary and designed to minimise risk while allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the celebrations. Tourism and hospitality sectors, which traditionally see high demand over the festive period, are being briefed to help communicate arrangements to guests and adjust services accordingly.

Environmental considerations have also been referenced. Organisers have been asked to limit disturbances to sensitive marine areas and to ensure that waste management protocols are observed during celebrations that take place on or near the water.

What residents and visitors should know

Those planning to attend maritime events should check the Dubai Maritime Authority’s official website and social media channels for the latest updates, including maps of designated spectator areas and schedules for temporary restrictions. Boat owners should confirm their insurance, observe speed limits and follow directions from on-water marshals.

By publishing the Dubai maritime traffic plan ahead of time and reinforcing safety messaging, authorities aim to strike a balance between festive activity and responsible maritime conduct. The measures are intended to protect lives, support tourism and ensure that celebrations proceed with minimal disruption to everyday maritime operations.

As the UAE closes one year and looks towards the next, officials’ messages of renewed ambition accompany practical steps to safeguard public enjoyment and safety across the country’s busy waterways.

Key Takeaways:

  • Dubai Maritime Authority has released a Dubai maritime traffic plan to manage vessel movements during New Year celebrations.
  • Measures focus on safety, designated navigation lanes, patrols and temporary restrictions to protect participants and tourists.
  • Federal and local authorities, including representatives from Abu Dhabi, will coordinate to ensure smooth operations and minimise disruption.
