Hundreds of employees from the Victoria Group of Companies were recognised with prizes and festivities as they marked the New Year at a colourful event held at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru Turf along the Njeru–Kayunga road.
Victoria Group Uganda celebrates staff and industrial growth
The end-of-year party on 31 December saw workers from a wide range of the group’s subsidiaries receive household appliances including flat-screen televisions, woofers and fridges in recognition of their service over the year. The celebration, attended by directors, managers and proprietors, combined entertainment with an emphasis on team building and employee motivation.
Management was represented by Elizabeth Mbeiza, Victoria Group’s principal human resource manager, alongside Sanjay Patel and Jiyani Alpesh, the managing director of Victoria Sugar Limited. The event brought together staff from Gold Star Battery, Victoria Tyres, Victoria Sugar, Parle G, Delta Refractories, Total Cables, Tarpo Plastics, Yogi Steels, VN PL, Simba Creation, Mayuge Stone Quarry, Millennium Tiles and Tembo Aluminium.
Organisers provided free food and drinks throughout the evening and used the occasion to acknowledge individual and team achievements. According to company leadership, the rewards were intended to show appreciation for the workforce and to strengthen relationships across departments ahead of the new year.
The staff celebration follows a high-profile commissioning earlier this week when President Yoweri Museveni officially opened the Victoria Sugar Limited factory in Luwero District. The president praised the factory’s contribution to job creation, clean energy production and the wider industrialisation agenda of Uganda.
Victoria Group’s investments are notable for their scale and reach across multiple manufacturing sectors. Company stakeholders at the event highlighted the group’s role in expanding formal employment opportunities and increasing the national tax base. Officials pointed out that taxes from private companies help fund public services such as infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and education.
The article also referenced the broader role of the Indian community in Uganda’s economy. Though it constitutes less than one per cent of the population, the community contributes a significant share of income tax revenue and maintains strong commercial ties between Uganda and India. Bilateral trade between the two countries has grown considerably and now exceeds US$1.2 billion, driven by investment, development assistance and industry partnerships.
For employees, the awards and public recognition provided a morale boost at the end of the year. For the Victoria Group, the ceremony offered a visible demonstration of corporate social responsibility and of the value the group places on staff welfare. As Victoria Sugar moves into production, the combined effects of local employment, energy generation and fiscal contributions are likely to strengthen the company’s economic footprint in Uganda.
Company leaders and workers expressed optimism that the investments will sustain job creation and support regional development in the coming years, aligning private enterprise incentives with national industrialisation goals.
