Women Eligible to Apply for Excise Inspector Posts in India

The government has confirmed that women are permitted to apply for the post of Excise Inspector under the latest recruitment notification. The single advertisement covers vacancies for both men and women. Eligible candidates should note the educational, age and physical standards required as well as the details of the compulsory physical efficiency test.

Excise Inspector recruitment India – Physical and Educational Requirements

To apply candidates must hold a Bachelors degree (BA, BSc, BCom) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university. The age bracket for applicants is 19 to 31 years. Standard age relaxations apply: five years for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and three years for other backward classes and eligible backward communities as per the recruitment rules.

The post carries a pay scale of , (numeric in original) 43,400 to 91,200. Applicants should verify the exact pay matrix and allowances in the official notification.

Physical standards are strictly enforced prior to the physical efficiency test. Minimum height for women is 152 centimetres, with a slightly lower requirement of 150 centimetres for candidates from the SC category. Candidates must be fit to perform arduous outdoor duties. Vision requirements demand full vision in each eye. Colour blindness, squint (strabismus) or any pathological condition of the eyes or ocular adnexa will result in rejection.

Before being allowed to attempt the physical efficiency test, candidates will undergo physical measurements. Those who do not meet the prescribed measurements will not be permitted to participate in the test. The selection procedure also makes clear that candidates who suffer accidents or injuries during the physical efficiency test will not be given a repeat opportunity.

Physical Efficiency Test Events and Standards

Candidates must qualify in any five of the eight events listed under the National Physical Efficiency one-star standard. The events and minimum standards are:

  • 100 metres run  17 seconds
  • High jump  106 centimetres
  • Long jump  305 centimetres
  • Shot put (4 kg)  488 centimetres
  • 200 metres run  36 seconds
  • Throwing the cricket ball (throwball)  1,400 centimetres
  • Shuttle race (25 x 4 metres)  26 seconds
  • Skipping (1 minute)  80 skips

Candidates should prepare well in advance for these events and ensure they meet the minimum physical measurements required. The recruitment authority will not entertain requests for re-tests from candidates injured during the physical efficiency test.

Prospective applicants are advised to read the full recruitment notification available on the official website before applying. The notification will include application deadlines, document requirements, the mode of application, examination centres and any applicable reservation rules. Candidates should keep originals and attested copies of educational certificates, identity proof, category certificates where applicable, and recent photographs ready for submission.

Finally, applicants who meet the educational, age and physical criteria should ensure timely application submission and follow official instructions strictly. Regularly checking the recruitment portal and official circulars will help candidates avoid common errors and ensure a smooth application process.
